Preventing introduction of rabies into NZ

• Infected, clinically normal animal.
• Ban importation of all carnivores.
• Quarantine for long period to allow disease to
  develop if it is present.
• Vaccinate and then test serologically to ensure
  adequate immune response.
• Follow up with short quarantine period.
