Definition of Emotional Disabilities
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
    (IDEA), Public Law 101-476 defines emotional
    disabilities as the following
  • (i) The term means a condition exhibiting one or
    more characteristics over a long period of time
     (ii) The term includes schizophrenia. The term
    does not apply to children who are socially
    maladjusted, unless it is determined that they
    have an emotional disturbance

    suggestions on how parents can help their
    children with emotional disabilities succeed in
    school.
