Title: ELL Information For Educators
1ELL Information For Educators
2Q1 How do you know that a student is an English
Language Learner (ELL)?Who Decides?
3Answer The ESOL teacher will inform you that a
student is an ELL and will confer with you about
the childs W-APT score that measures English
proficiency. This will let you know how fluent
the child is in Speaking, Reading, Writing, and
Understanding spoken English.
4Q2 Are all Hispanics ELLs? Are all ELLs
migrant?What determines?
5Answer No! Many Hispanic students may have been
born in the U.S. and may speak only English.
Also, migrant status is determined by whether the
parents work in an agriculturally related job or
not. Hispanics whose parents do not work in
agriculture are not migrants. Many ELLs and their
families do not migrate and are not migrants. Any
race of student can be a migrant if their parents
migrate for agricultural work.
6So one does not necessarily equal the
other.Hispanic does not equal ELL,ELL does not
equal migrant,Hispanic does not equal
migrant,migrant does not equal ELL.
7Q3 Do ELLs participate in state mandated
testing? How? What is the TPC plan?
8Answer ELLs participate in all state mandated
assessments but can be deferred from testing
during the 1st twelve months after entry into the

assessments.
11Q5 How do you adjust your daily instruction to
meet the needs of ELLs?

computer software, visual aids, and other
differentiated methods.
