- Classical conditioning basic learning process
that involves repeatedly paring a neutral
stimulus with a response-producing stimulus until
the neutral stimulus elicits the same response as
the response-producing stimulus - Learning to associate one thing (a stimulus) with
another - Because responses occur automatically, this type
of learning is involuntary.

- Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS)
- stimulus that unconditionally--automatically and
naturally--triggers a response - Does not have to be learned (conditioned) in
order to produce a response. - Unconditioned Response (UCR)
- unlearned, naturally occurring response to the
unconditioned stimulus - A response that occurs automatically the first
time a stimulus is presented. A person does not
have to learn (be conditioned) to have this
response. - Ex salivation when food is in the mouth
increased heart-rate and blood pressure when
given a shock.
