What is EFD NI?
  • A not-for-profit organisation
  • Formed, managed and funded by employers
  • Member employers commit to good disability
    practice
  • Almost 80 members from the public, private and
    voluntary sectors
  • Covers approximately 20 of the workforce

    offer meaningful, relevant work placements to
    suit a wide range of interests and abilities
  • BBC - annual programme for disabled people to
    give experience in media industry
  • Staff Commission for Education and Library Boards
    ring fenced Clerical Officer Post, contacted
    The Cedar Foundation, explored placement of a
    suitably qualified person, facilitated disability
    awareness training, at end of placement permanent
    post offered

    adjustments, obtain feedback from disabled
    employees, invite suggestions for good disability
    practice, identify barriers
  • Translink - employee developed hearing
    impairment, Health and Safety guidelines excluded

    employee and agreed transfer to ticket kiosk job
  • CCMS - due to disability secondary school teacher
    allowed to start work at 10.30 a.m., substitute
    teacher employed to teach earlier classes
