Student Voice - the Internet platform

• Student Voice provides students with an
  user-friendly and secured online environment to
  talk over issues of high concern for the young
  generation. It aims to support responsible use of
  Internet by students

• Pilot phase of the Student Voice Romania project
  involves students and teachers in five high
  schools across the country

• Improve standards of education through enhancing
  accountability to students for results of
  education reforms
• Prepare students for active roles as citizens and
  responsible members of their communities
• Foster student participation in school management
  
• Upgrade skills of students as users of
  interactive on-line environments for learning

Student Voice expansion phase 2006 / 2007

• The intention is to roll out the project
  throughout Romania and facilitate links with
  similar initiatives in the UK and other European
  countries

Next year Student Voice

• - Enhance dialogue on how to achieve better
  convergence with European Union norms for
  education
• - Demonstrate commitment for positive social
  change and more inclusive societies (spreading
  out access to Student Voice for rural schools in
  Romania)
• - Make use of Student Voice to develop
  international school links and collaborative
  projects involving students in SSE region and the
  UK

Real Issues, Real Audiences

• 1st SVR workshop - May 2005
• Government was invited to ask students for their
  advice on what young people today want from
  education and how they think it can best be
  provided.
• The big question as it look on the Student Voice

Increasing confidence of students to engage in
public debate

• SVR workshops at school level and online
  communication with MoE officials September 2005
• Ministry officials confirmed commitment to engage
  in online dialogue and feed-back to students
  proposals

Student Voice Workshops

• Students have considered Government questions and
  developed their ideas through discussions with
  peers and invited experts in face-to-face
  workshops within the framework of their schools
  Student Councils.

E-Citizenship Course

• The students and their teachers are supported by
  an E-Citizenship course, designed to help them
  understand how they can contribute to national
  government decision-making processes.
• 5 Steps to Influence curriculum enables students
  to discuss effectively, research for evidence,
  organise their views and express themselves
  effectively.
