Title: TESTING

1
TESTING
  • Strategies for Taking Standardized Tests

2
The Night Before Testing
  • Go to bed on time
  • Talk to your parents and/or teachers about any
concerns you may have regarding the test
  • Review any test taking strategies you have learned

3
The Morning of Testing
  • THINK POSITIVE
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Think of what you will do to relax when testing
    is over

4
Multiple Choice Questions
  • If you do not understand the directions, ask for
    help
  • Read the question and ALL of the answer choices
    before marking anything
  • Dont spend too much time on any one question.
Do your best and then move on.

5
Multiple Choice Questions Continued
  • Do not change your answers unless you are very
    uncertain about your first choice.
  • Answer every question. Make the most intelligent
    guess that you can.
  • Dont guess blindly. Think about the best choice
    and make it!

6
Multiple Choice QuestionsReminders
  • After you have been through all of the questions
once, go back and find questions you have some
knowledge about and eliminate choices that you
    know are incorrect.
  • If you can eliminate two wrong answers, your
chance of choosing the right answer is greater

7
????????? What do I do?
  • Make sure that you understand what the question
    is asking.
  • Be sure you are responding to the question that
    is being asked.
  • Look for key words that may help you choose the
correct answer or improve your response

8
Reading Passages
  • If the test requires you to read passages and
then answer questions about what you read, READ
    THE QUESTIONS FIRST
  • By doing this you will know what you are looking
    for as you read.

9
CLUES
  • When there are several questions about a reading
passage or chart, look for CLUES in other
questions that will help you with those items
    about which you are unsure.

10
Whats This Paper For?
  • Use your scratch paper to organize your thoughts
BEFORE writing BCRs or to record items that you
will double check when finished the test.
  • You may want to write reminders on the paper for
BCR organization when you receive the paper

11
Extra Time?
  • If you finish early, check to make sure that you
answered all questions and return to any that you
    had difficulty with.
  • Time should be spent on the questions that you
had the most difficulty with. Generally, your
    first guess is best.
