ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY

• Before and After School No Pass Needed
• During Lunch Get a lunch pass from cafeteria
• From Class Teacher permission with signed time
  tracker
• Remember to Sign-In in the notebook as you enter
  the library
• Backpacks are to be left on the shelf to the left
  as you enter -please do not block walk / Exit area

Lunchtime in the Library

• After eating lunch, come to your library and
  play checkers, chess or other games.
• Read, rest, visit quietly or sit quietly and use
  this area as a safe haven or sanctuary.

LIBRARY EXPECTATIONS

• Please enter and leave the library quietly.
• Please have a signed time tracker when not
  entering with your class.
• Please respect the books and equipment.
• Do not disturb other students work.
• Please no food or drinks in the library.

CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES

• Two week check-out for
• three books-no magazine checkouts!
• . No fines, but over-due notices will be
  given.
• YOU are responsible for returning your books OR
  paying for what is lost or damaged.

What is My Reading Level?

• How do you determine whether a book is right for
  you?
• DRP (Degree of Reading Power) is a test that you
  will take that will give you a number.
• 5-Finger Rule read any page. If you cant read
  the word or know the meaning, put down a finger.
  When you get to all four fingers and your thumb,
  that book is too hard for you. Pick another.

Use the Search Engines

• To help you find the book you are looking for.
• Search by Title, Author, Subject Matter Key Word
  or Series such as
• Alex Rider or Pendragon
• Ask for HELP!
• I am here for YOU!

Library Contests

• Ford Fun Facts are
• Held every month. Sometimes the contest is held
  IN the library with a where in the world is
  this located.
• Pick up inside library door (plastic holder).
• Turn in contest sheet (date on sheet.)
• Win a prize. Grand Prize goes to the first person
  (all answers correct), who turns in the answer
  sheet first.

What is...

Ford Middle School

Read 5 selected books by January 1st and another
5 books by June 1st. Place yourself on a team
with 3 or 4 other students. Compete with other
teams on comprehensive questions. The team with
the best score wins the Battle!

How can I participate?

• Read the 5/5 books from the
• Battle list by Jan. 1st June 1st.
• Be on a Battle Team.
• Turn in your Team Registration to the library by
  Jan. 7th June 3rd.
