Da Vinci Code Myths
  • Jerry Sanderson

Lesson 4
2
  • People are very gullible, theyll believe
    anything they see in print.
  • - Charlotte from Charlottes Web

3
Review
  • Christianity did not establish Eve as responsible
for original sin, Dan Brown ignores the Old
Testament, New Testament uses the phrase Adams
    sin
  • Priory of Sion is a documented, established HOAX
  • Council of Nicea did not vote on what books to
    include in the Bible

4
Review
  • Jesus followers did not view Jesus as a mortal,
    a mere man
  • The Council of Nicea did not decide on Jesus
divinity by a close vote, his divinity was
already well established by the time of the
    Council
  • YHWH was NOT derived from Jehovah, derived from
androgynous physical union between the masculine
Jah and the Pre-Hebraic name for Eve Havah

5
Review
  • The Gnostic gospels were written 100s of years
after the gospels and epistles we have in the
    Bible.
  • Postmodernism rejects propositional logic and is
the new vessel for promoting Gnostic thinking.

6
Mary Magdalene
  • Luke 81-5
  • After this, Jesus traveled about from one town
and village to another, proclaiming the good news
of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him,
  • and also some women who had been cured of
evil spirits and diseases Mary (called
Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out
  • Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of
Herod's household Susanna and many others.
These women were helping to support them out of
    their own means.
  • While a large crowd was gathering and people
were coming to Jesus from town after town, he
told this parable "A farmer went out to sow his
    seed..

7
Dan Browns Mary Magdalene
  • One of the Apostles of Christ
  • Married to Jesus
  • Had a daughter named Sarah with Jesus therefore
    SHE WAS THE HOLY GRAIL
  • Was intended by Jesus to carry on the Church
    instead of Peter
  • Was of the Tribe of Benjamin

8
There is some debate
  • Pope Gregory I - 591 A.D. "She whom Luke calls
the sinful woman, whom John calls Mary of
Bethany, we believe to be the Mary from whom
seven devils were ejected according to Mark."
    Eastern Orthodox Christians distinguish between
Mary Magdalene on the one hand and Mary of
Bethany,"the woman who was a sinner" on the other
hand. Protestants mostly reject all these
    identifications.

9
  • Scholars however believe that Mary Magdalene,
Mary of Bethany, and the woman Jesus rescued as
well as the one who anointed him at Simon the
Lepers house in the Gospel of Luke, are all
    different women.

The True Mary Magdalene
  • Mark 1540-42
  • Some women were watching from a distance.
Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother
of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.
  • In Galilee these women had followed him and
cared for his needs. Many other women who had
come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.
  • It was Preparation Day (that is, the day
before the Sabbath). So as evening approached,..
  • Mark 1547
  • Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw
    where he was laid.

11
Mary Magdalene
  • John 201-2
  • Early on the first day of the week, while it
was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb
and saw that the stone had been removed from the
    entrance.
  • So she came running to Simon Peter and the
other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said,
"They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we
don't know where they have put him!"

If this is Mary Magdalene, wheres John?
21
Knights Templar According to Dan Brown
  • Formed by the Priory of Sion to keep the secret
alive and found treasure in Solomons temple.
  • Used Round churches as an insult to the Church
and an inside code of the secret
  • They worshipped a pre-Christian fertility god
    named Baphomet
  • Gothic architecture was designed by the Templars
to record the secret of the sacred feminine.
  • Pope Clement V (who the Templars were
blackmailing him with the Grail Secret) were
    arrested and charged with Satanism.

22
Truth of the Knights Templar
  • The Templars were formed by French nobleman
Hughes de Payens in 1118, a veteran of the First
Crusade to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land.
  • St. Bernard of Clairvaux and generous donors
granted them numerous properties in Europe for
support. This and their banking is how they
    gained great wealth.
  • Rendered redundant after the last Crusader
stronghold fell in 1291, the Templars pride and
wealth(they were also bankers) earned them keen
    hostility.

23
Truth of the Knights Templar
  • Due to a financial dispute King Phillip the Fair,
of France had many of the Templars arrested in
    1307.
  • They were charged with charged with idol worship
and heresy and under torture, many confessed and
    were burned.
  • Pope Clement, a weak, sickly Frenchman
manipulated by his King, burned no one in Rome
inasmuch as he was the first pope to reign from
    Avignon.

24
Treatment of Women in Pagan Societies
  • Before the coming of Christ, in the pagan world,
the lives of most women were held in very low
    regard.
  • In Greece, India, and China, women had no rights
and were considered the property of their
husbands. Aristotle taught that a woman ranked
somewhere between a man and a slave. Plato
taught that if a man lived a cowardly life, he
would be reincarnated as a woman.

25
Treatment of Women in Pagan Societies
  • In Ancient Greece, women-especially wives were
regarded as lowly. A wife was not allowed to
leave her house unescorted, but a mans mistress
was allowed to accompany a married man in public.
  • The average Athenian woman had the social status
of a slave. Women were not educated, nor were
they allowed to speak in public

26
Treatment of Women in Pagan Societies
  • The advent of Christianity radically transformed
the fate of the women. Even ancient Roman pagan
scholars agree that it was the turning point for
the freedom and dignity of women.
  • Sources Under the Influence, Alvin J. Schmidt
  • Women in Greece and Rome, Abner Schram
  • Cracking Da Vincis Code James Garlow, Peter
    Jones

27
Do People Believe the Da Vinci Code?
  • A compelling blend of history and page turning
suspense. A masterpiece that should be mandatory
    reading!
  • - Library Journal
  • An exhaustively researched page-turner about
secret religious societies, ancient cover-ups and
    savage vengence.
  • - Publishers Weekly

28
What about Dan Brown?
  • I began as a skeptic. As I started researching
Da Vinci Code, I really thought I would disprove
a lot of this theory about Mary Magdalene and
holy blood and all of that. I became a
    believer.
  • - Dan Brown, Primetime, 11-03-03

29
What about Dan Brown?
  • On another occasion, when NBCs Today Show anchor
Matt Lauer asked him how much of the novel was
based on reality, Dan Brown replied Absolutely
all of it. Obviously, Robert Langdon is
fictional, but all the art, architecture, secret
rituals, secret societies all of that is
    historical fact.
