LESSON 15 GLOSSARY

• PHASE CHANGE The process where solids, liquids,
  and gases change from one state of matter to
  another.
• FILTRATION- The process of separating a solid and
  a liquid by passing a mixture of the two through
  a mesh (usually a filter paper). The liquid,
  which passes through the filter paper, is called
  the filtrate. The solid, which remains on the
  filter paper, is called the residue.

• TECTONIC FORCES- Forces within the earth.
• SALT DOMES Domelike subterranean structures
  created from salt beds by tectonic forces.
• DECANTING A method of separation where the
  insoluble component is given time to sink to the
  bottom of the beaker and then the solution is
  poured off.
