Graduation Requirements
  • Total 240 Credits at graduation including core
    classes and electives
  • NOTE Each grade of A-D is worth 5 credits per
    semester, and 10 credits per year. Students who
    earn an F in a class receive 0 credits.
  • 140 Parent Service Hours
  • Successful completion of a Senior Exit Portfolio
    including 3 applications to 4 year Universities
    and/or other post secondary institutions

CAHSEE Grad Requirement
  • All students must pass the California High School
    Exit Exam in order to graduate
  • Students who have not passed portions of the exam
    have 4 chances to pass the exam
  • 11th and 12th grade students who have not passed
    the CAHSEE will have Saturday Prep Classes
    afterschool and on Saturdays this year.
  • This year CAHSEE scores went down

CAHSEE SUPPORT
  • All 10th graders and 11th grade students who need
    to retake the CAHSEE will take a CAHSEE
    diagnostic test at the beginning of the school
    year.
  • Those students who demonstrate the need for extra
    help will be required to accept additional
    support beyond the school day (Saturday class,
    after school, or other). This is a top priority
    so after school jobs and other activities will
    not excuse students from attending CAHSEE
    classes.
  • CAHSEE support to all 10th and 11th graders will
    be provided in their English and Math classes.
    Failure to pay attention and be a good student in
    these classes may result in the failure to pass
    the CAHSEE and graduate.

Attendance
  • Excellence at School Begins with Excellent
    Attendance
  • Students who are habitually truant or tardy will
    be referred to the Student Attendance Review
    Board.
  • Excessive absences may lead to loss of course
    credit.

Tardy Policy
  • If a student arrives more than 10 minutes late to
    school, he/she must obtain a late-slip from the
    office.
  • Tardiness of more than thirty minutes from any
    class is considered an unexcused absence and may
    be subject to a detention.
  • Excessive tardies will result in an appearance
    before the Attendance Review Board.
  • Any absence, EXCUSED or UNEXCUSED, results in a
    loss of money for the school and educational
    opportunities for your child!

The School Uniform
  • A Navy Blue Polo Shirt
  • Beige khaki pants, walking shorts, or skirt
  • White, Navy Blue, or Black tennis shoes
  • Solid Navy Blue sweater, sweat shirt, or jacket.
  • You can find inexpensive uniform options at
    Target, K-mart, and Wal-Mart among other stores.

  • All previous uniform and grooming expectations
    still apply.
  • NEW
  • Haircuts for boys may not be shorter than a
    number 2 clipper cut.
  • Mohawks of any kind are not permitted.
  • Half and half hair dyes are not permitted. (part
    of the hair black, part blond, etc.)
  • Gloves, hats, and sun glasses are not permitted
    on campus and should not be seen!

New for 07-08 (Discipline Policy)
  • All office and security staff have the authority
    to issue detention, referrals, and require parent
    conferences, on the behalf of the administration
    (dress code violations, vanalism, etc)
  • Per the new discipline plan parent shadows from 1
    day to 1 week in duration will be required for
    most minor and major repeat offenses. Family
    leave from employers is protected by law for
    school business.
  • No toy weapons or weapons of any kind are allowed
    and possession of them will lead to expulsion.
  • ODLHA is a closed campus before and after school.
    There is only one point of access on 3rd and
    Figueroa. No exceptions!

Volunteer Hours
  • 35 per year.
  • No graduation without 140 total hours served.
  • Participation in fundraising efforts and
    attendance at school events, and PTO will be the
    focus of volunteer hours this year.
  • Donations of water and snacks can fulfull service
    hours.

PTO
  • The PTO will meet once a month. General meetings
    begin in October.
  • The first 30 minutes of every PTO meeting will be
    sponsored by the school administration and
    consist of parent education ONLY. Topic Helping
    your child succeed as a student.
  • The remainder of PTO meetings will be determined
    by the PTO board and in collaboration with
    teacher sponsors.

New Advisory Curriculum For 07-08
  • Advisory will focus on study skills,
    organization, goal setting, social skills, and
    personal health.
  • A sexual health component will be offered. Parent
    permission slips will be sent once topics are
    confirmed.
  • Students will be taught how to use their agenda
    books and will be required to bring them to
    school each day.
  • Advisory book checks will be part of the advisory
    grade.
  • Students who dont pass advisory will not
    graduate and the credits must be made up.

New in 07-08 Parent Signatures
  • Students will be required to keep all assignment
    due dates and time management plans in their
    agenda books.
  • Parent signature will be required weekly in the
    agenda book to verify you have seen their
    homework, project due dates, and goals.
  • Students will keep record of all their grades on
    each assignment in each class and parent will be
    required to sign off on them on a weekly basis.

Graduation Progress
  • All students are expected to make graduation
    progress each semester by receiving a grade of C
    or higher.
  • Ds must be made up to ensure college admissions.
    But students may graduate with Ds on their
    transcripts.
  • Students may not graduate with Fs on their
    transcripts.
  • Students with 4 or more Fs on their transcripts
    must consider continuation school or adult school
    classes in order to receive a high school diploma
  • Students with 6 or more Fs on their transcript
    by the end of 10th grade will be referred to
    continuation school and may return their senior
    year or earlier only if credit deficiencies are
    made up. Notification will be received via mail
    in 2007-2008 with instructions on how to enroll
    in local continuation schools.

    orientation unless all forms are completed and
    turned in before you leave. This orientation is
    worth 5 SERVICE HOURS!
