    research
  • - Protect human participants in research
  • Why Does MSU Have An IRB?
  • By accepting federal funds, MSU agreed to
  • Create an IRB to ensure compliance with federal,
    state, and local regulations, which protect
    humans in research
  • Apply federal, state, and local regulatory
    protections to non-funded human research

If My Project Requires IRB Approval, What Should
I Do?
  • Before starting research
  • Complete a MSU IRB application and other relevant
    documents
  • Send completed protocol by email to IRB
    Administrator
  • Protocols will be screened, reviewed, and most
    often, approved by the IRB.
  • You will receive initial IRB findings in about 21
    work days.

IRB What Should I Do?
  • If a full review is required, you should receive
    initial IRB findings in about 7 working days
    after a full IRB meeting.
  • Please note the IRB does not retroactively
    approve research completed without IRB review and
    approval.

Student Eligibility Requirements
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled in or applying to a research-oriented
  • masters or doctoral degree program in the U.S.
  • Completing a masters or doctoral thesis in an
  • NSF-supported field
  • The student is near the beginning of their
