- Career Development (CD) awards support projects

- Separately Budgeted Research (SBR) awards are for
projects involving scholarly, creative, or
research efforts. - Student/Faculty Research (SFR) awards support
research projects for students to work with
faculty.

- The IRB is a constituted review body that will
help you - - Determine if you are engaged in human
research - - Protect human participants in research
- Why Does MSU Have An IRB?
- By accepting federal funds, MSU agreed to
- Create an IRB to ensure compliance with federal,
state, and local regulations, which protect
humans in research - Apply federal, state, and local regulatory
protections to non-funded human research

13If My Project Requires IRB Approval, What Should
I Do?
- Before starting research
- Complete a MSU IRB application and other relevant
documents - Send completed protocol by email to IRB
Administrator - Protocols will be screened, reviewed, and most
often, approved by the IRB. - You will receive initial IRB findings in about 21
work days.
14IRB What Should I Do?
- If a full review is required, you should receive
initial IRB findings in about 7 working days
after a full IRB meeting. - Please note the IRB does not retroactively
approve research completed without IRB review and
