Love and Logic
  • Avery Elementary School has implemented the Love
and Logic approach to work with and discipline
students. This is a school-wide positive
    behavior plan that promotes student
responsibility in which problems will be handled
on a case-by-case manner, focusing on the unique
characteristics of each situation. We believe
that all children are different and situations
are handled as they arise. Our focus is to
enable children to grow and learn from their
    actions.
  • Love and Logic is an approach to working with
    students that
  • Teaches kids to think for themselves
  • Raises the level of student responsibility
  • Prepares kids to function effectively in a
society filled with temptations, decisions, and
    consequences

10
Love and Logic (Contd)
  • Within the Love and Logic approach, a fundamental
question concerning students is Do I want to
control kids or do I want to obtain their
cooperation? As we want to obtain their
cooperation, student misbehavior will be handled
    as follows
  • If a student causes a problem, we will do
    something about it.
  • 1. If a student causes a problem, we will ask
    him/her to solve that problem.
  • 2. If the student cant or will not fix the
    problem, we will do something.
  • 3. What we do will depend on the unique
    individual and the unique situation.
  • Are you interested in learning more about Love
and Logic? Look for more information in the
coming weeks about Parenting with Love and
    Logic classes at Avery
