2What is the Balanced Scorecard?
- The Balanced Scorecard is a goal-setting and
accountability tool that all schools will build
to specify the efforts of each individual school
site in meeting the goals and objectives of our
districts Strategic Plan. The Balanced
Scorecard (BSC) ensures that we are focused on a
few common goals designed to improve student
achievement, and that we are all clear about what
those goals mean for each of us. Educators,
parents and others often say we need multiple
ways to assess the performance of students and
schools. The BSC offers schools and the community
at large the opportunity to design just those
measures.
3Goal 1 Access and Equity Making social
justice a realityObjective 1.1 Diminish the
historic power of demographics.
- District Measures
- Be Californias highest performing district in
school quality, equity and access as measured by
the District Matrix. - Reduce and eliminate variability in
achievement between the districts highest
performing and lowest performing subgroups at all
levels and content areas as measured by the
District Matrix.

20Congratulations! You have just built specific
components of your schools Balanced Scorecard.
The most important thing to remember about this
work is to continue to engage the school
community in deep discussions about equity,
access, race, joyful learners, and disrupting the
power of demographics.
