7MORTAR DESIRED CAPABILITIES
Mortar Weapon Systems (120mm, 81mm, 60mm)
- Provide Soldiers and Marines with lighter and
more responsive dismounted mortar weapon systems. - Improve current weapon systems to be more
sustainable and survivable in all environments. - Identify a new platform for IBCT and HBCT
Mortar Fire Control System (MFCS)
- Provide Soldiers and Marines with a Lightweight
Fire Control System that enhances accuracy and
provides greater first round effects.
Mortar Ammunition, Fuzes (120mm, 81mm, 60mm)
- Increase in lethality across all mortar weapon
systems. - Increase the range, accuracy and precision of
mortar ammunition. - Provide a 120mm and 81mm smoke cartridge with
greater density, duration and obscuration of
visual, thermal and infrared devices. - Increase the candle power and burn time of
Illumination cartridges.

of movement by preventing AIF from emplacing IEDs
along major supply routes (MSRs Tampa/Santa Fe)
and frequently trafficked operational
routes CONCEPT Use organic assets take away
the cover of darkness to disrupt emplacement of
AIF in areas routinely laden with IEDs.
