Speaking Les Vacances
  • Learn how pronounce words more effectively
  • Sound frencher than a baguette

16
Pronouncing French words Why is it so hard?
  • All languages are based and built upon letter
strings and combinations which build the sounds
    required to pronounce the language.
  • With your native language, your mouth becomes
accustomed to a certain group of letter strings
and hence finds a new set of rules hard to get
    its tongue around.
  • Thats why foreigners have an accent when they
speak English and you have an accent when trying
    to pronounce French.

17
RULES FOR BETTER FRENCH
H is almost always silent French (thats why
the French find it so ard to pronounce in
English!)
Generally, never pronounce the last letter of a
word in French
CH is pronounced SH
Raising the tone of your voice ( not the volume!)
at the end of a phrase infers that you are
asking a question
18
Letter strings in French Vowels
au oh I ee
ou oo ui wee
ie ee-ay à aw
ai aY É ey
oi wa è air
