5Special problems
Hydroplanning effect on Airports Pavements during
heavy rain. Coefficient of friction very critical.

6Special problems
Grooving System
7New Mexican proposal for Coefficient of
Friction AIRPORT PAVEMENT SURFACES
Measurements on all the Runway length a) Once a
year evaluation b) (1) in Center Line c) (4) at
3 and 6 m on each side d) Method ASTM E
670 e) Equipment Mu-Meter or similar
- Key Notes
- Until now, the official value for C. F. is 0,5
min (wet and dry) - The new proposal (2007) is in discussion and when
approved (2008) will require for all Airports
minimum values of 0,66 and 0,72 for wet pavement
critical condition.
8PROFILE INDEX ACCORDING TO THE NEW MEXICAN
STANDARDS FOR HIGHWAYS
9New Mexican proposal for Profile Index AIRPORT
PAVEMENT
Measurements on all the Runway length a.- (1)
in Center Line b.- (10) at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10
meters on each side covering 20 m width c.- Once
a year evaluation
Key Notes 1) Until 1990, the official standard
in Mexico had a maximum Value of P. I. 30
inch/mile (47 cm/Km) 2) From 1992, the standard
value was improved requiring a maximum P. I. 15
inch/mile (24 cm/Km) 3) The new mexican
proposal (2007) now in study and discussion, we
expect to have it approved along 2008 and will
require for all medium and large airports a
maximum Profile Index of 10,0 and 15,0 cm/Km
10AICM Land operation (near of saturation)
11AICM Actual Layout
12AICM Longitudinal non-uniform settlements history
13AICM Compensated Pavement Section
14AICM Compensated Pavement Section works for the
first runway
