Title: Awareness to Action
1Awareness to Action
- Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force
2 3Why is water quality important?
4All water leads to the ocean!
- 30 -50 of the oxygen we breathe is created by
marine plants in the oceans - We must take steps to protect those plants by
taking care of our watersheds.
5Our watershed

7What affects the water quality?
8Point Source Pollution
9Example of Point Source Pollution Athos Oil Spill
- In November 2004 the Athos spilled 265,000
gallons of crude oil into the Delaware River
after hitting a submerged pipe.
10Did you know?
- There was an even bigger cause of oil pollution
in the Great Lakes. - Can anyone guess what it was?
11American car owners!
12Non-point Source Pollution
- Non-point source pollution is THE BIGGEST source
of water pollution but what is it?
13Examples of Non-Point Source Pollution Runoff

litter and motor oil, eventually pollutes the
ocean due to point and non-point pollution. - It is important to take care of the watershed for
lots of reasons. What are some of them?
23The good stuff
- Lots of kids in the Lake Erie area are helping
their watershed with Earth Force! - How will YOU help your watershed?
24Storm Drain
