Chippenham Timeline - 1970s
1972 - Chippenham opened with a dedication
ceremony and admitted its first patient, 3-year
old Charles Finke III. 1975 - Family Practice
residency program established two additional
floors opened adding 143 beds. 1976 - Total body
CT scanner added. 1976 - Tucker Pavilion moved on
campus from its downtown location. 1978 -
Cardiac rehabilitation services added. 1979 -
Cardiac surgery and cardiac catheterization added.

• 1982 - New North Tower opened.
• 1983 - Outpatient surgery facility opened, first
  balloon angioplasty performed.
• 1984 - 12-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit
  opened.
• 1985 - MRI approved.
• 1987 - Sleep Disorders Center established.
• 1989 - Lithotripsy, Diabetes Treatment Center,
  Sports Medicine Center, and expanded endoscopy
  and outpatient surgery services added Family
  Center and Women's Health Connection merge to
  form Women's Medical Center Virginia Heart
  Center formed second CT scanner added.

Chippenham Timeline - 1990s

• 1990 - Expansion project added three floors to
  the North Tower, a parking deck, an expanded
  women's health facility and emergency department,
  MRI, oncology facility, and sports medicine and
  occupational health facilities Chippenham
  Hospital changed name to Chippenham Medical
  Center Orthopedic, Laser and Diagnostic Breast
  Centers opened.
• 1991 - NICU opened.
• 1992 - New cardiac catheterization lab, cardiac
  rehab facilities.
• 1995 - Chippenham and Johnston-Willis began
  operation under a single management structure,
  now known as CJW Medical Center.
• 1998 - Spiral CT scanner added.
• 1999 - Cath Lab/EP Lab upgrades.

• 2000 - Phase one of The Vascular Center of
  Excellence.
• 2001 - Levinson Heart Hospital groundbreaking.
