Applying Styles
  • Select your text and select the style you want to
    apply from the drop-down menu on the formatting
    toolbar.

Using the Styles Task Pane
  • Enable this task pane by clicking the two As
    next to the style list on the formatting toolbar.

Modifying a Style
  • Styles are saved in the Styles and Formatting
    pane so that they can be applied later on.
  • If we delete the only text that uses a style, the
    style will be deleted as well.

Creating a Style
  • You can click the New Style button in the styles
    task pane.

  • Examples of Word-created character styles are
    footnotes and hyperlinks.
  • To create a character style, click the New Style

Using Smart Tags
  • Allows you to perform actions with Word that you
    would normally perform with other applications.
  • You can tell when Word has added a smart tag
    because it will have a purple dotted line under
    it.
