The Maryville College Information Systems
Services (ISS) department produced this guide to
assist students in configuring their personal
computers to work with the Maryville College
network. All information contained in this guide
is subject to change without notice. It is
offered as is and students should should
exercise their own discretion when choosing to
follow or not follow the procedures provided in
this guide. Maryville College supports any
computer owned by the college. Students are
responsible for the maintenance and support of
their personally owned computers. This guide
presumes that the computer is in proper working
order, free of defect, and has an Ethernet card
properly installed and functioning correctly.

- Select your Operating System from the list below
- Windows 98
- Windows 2000 Professional
- Windows XP (Professional)
- Windows XP (Home Edition)
- Macintosh OS 9.x
- Macintosh OS X

4Configuring Windows 2000 Pro
- From your desktop (the initial screen you see
when Windows has started) right-click on the My
Network Places icon. - Then select Properties.
- If you do not have a My Network Places (or a
closely named icon), go to Start -gt Settings -gt
Control Panel -gt Network.

- Right click on the Local Area Connection icon
and select properties.

- After selecting Properties of the Local Area
Connection icon, you should see the Local Area
Connection Properties dialog.

- Make sure you have these installed
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- File and Printer Sharing
- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- If not, just hit the Install button. Then
select - Client to install Microsoft Network Client
- Service to install File and Printer Sharing
- Protocol to install TCP/IP.
- Once all 3 of these are installedhighlight
TCP/IP by left clicking on it one time, and click
the Properties button.

- After selecting TCP/IP and clicking the
Properties button you should see the Internet
Protocol(TCP/IP) Properties dialog. - Make sure that these are selected
- Obtain an IP address
- Obtain DNS server
- Once the above two options are selected, click
the Advanced button.

- After clicking the Advanced button you should
see the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog. - Make sure that DHCP Enabled is listed in the
white box as shown to the right. - Click on the WINS and DNS tabs to make sure that
no gateways are installed. - If so, simply select it and click the Remove
button to remove any gateways installed. - Once youve completed this, simply click Ok
three times to bring you back to the desktop, and
completely out of the network menus.

- Once your are back at the desktop
- Right-click on My Computer and select
Properties. - If the My Computer icon is not on your
desktop, you can go to - Start -gt Settings -gt Control Panel -gt System
then Double-click the System icon.

- After selecting System Properties,
- Select the Network Identification tab, as shown
on the left. - Click the Properties button.

- After clicking the Properties button, you will
see the Identification Changes dialog. - Under Computer nameType a name for your
computer. - Under Member ofClick the Domain radio
button and type the word SCOTS in the domain box. - Click OK

- After clicking OK in the previous step, you
should see the Domain Username And Password
dialog. - Type the username and password for the College
network. - Click OK
- Restart the computer.

- Once your computer reboots, you will be able to
logon to the Maryville College network, just like
you do in the Library. - Press CTRL-ALT-DEL
- Enter your Maryville College username and
password - Select SCOTS from the logon to list.
- Click OK.
- Jump to the Final Step slide.

- You are done!
- Have a great semester.
- Each student is provided Network Storage (NS)
commonly called an N drive, which is backed up
each night. Verify that you can access your NS
