Athena Old aging Novell server

• 5 year old server
• Limited disk capacity
• Running Novell 4.11
• Account information dates back 10 years to the
  older Lehman server
  
• Accounts are organized into a rigid departmental
  context
  
• Running under older IPX protocol
• User accounts (G drive) have only 20MB of storage
  capacity. Departmental shared folders (H drive)
  are 200MB-500MB in size
  
• Many users did not login to Athena or make use of
  the limited storage capacity
  
• Many generic temp/student and outdated accounts
• Users kept the same insecure Novell passwords for
  years!

Artemis The New and improved Novell server

• Brand new secure server behind the MINS firewall
• Greatly improved disk capacity
• Running new Novell 5.70
• Up-to-date account information since only current
  accounts will be migrated from the old Athena
  server
  
• Accounts no longer organized in a departmental
  context
  
• Running under newer TCP/IP protocol
• User accounts (G drive) have 150MB of storage
  capacity. Departmental shared folders (H drive)
  are 1GB in size
  
• Both PC and Mac users can now login to Artemis to
  take advantage of improved storage capacity
  
• Accounts will be created for temp/part-time/studen
  t workers
  
• More secure password requirements

Artemis Novell clients

• PCs will have the older Novell client uninstalled
  and the newer free Novell Intranetware client
  installed
  
• Mac support will be provided via a new licensed
  Prosoft Netware client that will be installed on
  all Macs that require access to Artemis
  
• Approximately 18 minutes per computer. User must
  be present so AT can assist with setting password

Artemis Shared folders

• Part Time/Temp/Student accounts will have their
  own separate departmental folder
  
• Fulltime departmental staff will still have a
  departmental shared drive they will also have
  read/write access to the departmental
  part-time/temp/student drive
• Groups can be established for interdepartmental
  sharing of appropriate network folders

Artemis Storage space

• 150MB personal drive
• 1GB departmental drive
• Temp/part-time student drive if needed
• With increased storage capacity, users are
  encouraged to store their documents on the server
  where they will be backed up daily

Artemis Passwords

• Old Athena passwords will not work on the new
  Artemis server
  
• The new Novell accounts will have different
  password rules, so be prepared
  
• The password must contain letters, numbers and a
  special character ( _at_ etc.). 
  
• The minimum password length 8 characters. 
• The maximum length30 characters
• Minimum numeric characters 1 
• Minimum non-alphanumeric characters 1 
• Minimum number of different characters 3 
• Passwords must be changed every 6 months

Artemis Migration Steps Example

• 1) March 26 Help Desk contacts the Department
  Head to invite this group to move to Artemis.  
  
• 2) March 28 Department Head selects the
  Coordinator.
  
• 3) March 28 Help Desk sends the current list of
  users to the Coordinator.
  
• 4) April 2 Coordinator and Help Desk
• create final list of users
• decide how to handle old generic accounts
• select Migration Day when most users will be
  available
  
• List is sent to MINS
• 5) April 9 User accounts created on Artemis
• 6) April 13 Preliminary migration of data
• 7) April 16 4 pm Final migration of data.
  Current Athena accounts locked
  
• 8) April 17 AT visits department to install new
  software and assist users in changing initial
  Novell password
  
• 9) Coordinator maintains list of "absent" users
  for follow-up visits by AT
  
• Repeat this process for each department!

Artemis Migration Accounts

• Currently there are 1022 Novell accounts on
  Athena that need to be processed
  
• Current Accounts and corresponding data will be
  migrated to Artemis
  
• Older accounts and corresponding data that are
  outdated (as specified by the coordinator) will
  not be migrated
