  • Palmer Raids
  • Raids on several factories that were owned by
    communists
  • Led by A. Mitchell Palmer- Atty General
  • 250 deported, 4,000 arrested
  • Detained in horrible conditions.
  • -Some committed suicide.

  • No evidence against them, but they were convicted
    anyway
  • Sentenced put to death pardoned later
  • Judge was a bigot.

  • War Debt- Germany owed tons of money to Europe
    (who owed U.S.)
  • Dawes Plan- U.S. loaned money to Germany who
    paid back Europe who paid back U.S.
  • Did this to prevent war again.

Washington Naval Conference
  • U.S. concerned about growing navies and weapons
    around the world
  • Held a conference to reduce arms race
  • Very successful. Some countries even stopped
    building ships

Kellogg-Briand Pact
  • Agreement between 60 countries who all agreed to
    not go to war with each other.
  • Very little stopping countries from going to war.
