1Community Standards Survey Report
Dr. Nathan Lindsay Dr. Michael Walker Rachele
Caputo Deanna Leake
2Survey Overview
- Administered in the last two weeks of August,
2008 - Completed by 252 Freshmen
- 245 of these students attended the Community
Standards presentation
3Critical Findings of the Community Standards
Presentation
- I am responsible for my behavioral decisions
while a student, including on campus, in the
classroom, and in Wilmington. (90) - Complying with the UNCW Honor Code means doing my
own academic work and properly citing the work of
others. (89) - Movies such as ''Animal House'' aren't an
accurate portrayal of the American college
experience. UNCW encourages its students to
define their experience for themselves, not as
defined by the popular media. (87)
4Critical Findings of the Community Standards
Presentation
- Facebook and other virtual social networks (VSNs)
are okay to use, but are public therefore, UNCW
students should be careful about what they place
on VSNs. (87) - UNCW is a community with high standards and
behavioral expectations for its students. (87) - Complying with Community Standards in Wilmington
means making good behavioral choices when off
campus. (78)
5Critical Findings of the Community Standards
Presentation
- In general, community standards are about being
conscious of how my behavior affects others.
(73) - For students who live on campus, community
standards is about contributing their ideas
toward creating standards which will make the
residence halls most conducive to living and
learning. (66) - For students living off campus, community
standards means being considerate of their
neighbors, including those with lifestyles
different from their own. (43)
