    language.

Phonics Concepts
  • The English language has 26 letters
  • The English language has 44 sounds

Vowels
  • Vowels a, e, i, o, and u
  • Short vowels make their sound as in cat and fit
  • Long vowels shout their name as in lake and
    bike
  • All other letters are consonants
  • b, d, j, m, and z

Consonant Blends
  • Two consonants together that both make their own
    sound
  • Initial consonant blends are at the beginning of
    words drip, from, and skip
  • Final consonant blends are at the end of words
    camp, last, and risk

  • Two adjacent consonants that make a new sound.

Spelling
  • Our Spelling words consist of 5 phonetic words
    and five word wall words
  • The first 5 words on the spelling list target one
    phonics rule
  • The second 5 words are word wall words from our
    Blue Reader, Scott Foresman Series

Spelling
  • Students will take home their spelling notebook
    daily, and will have nightly homework. This will
    help prepare them for their test.
  • Our spelling tests will be on Fridays
