Mission of the Office

• This office is intended to serve as a link for
  ideas, and a tool that will allow us to build
  stronger communities and reach out more
  effectively to citizens in need.
• We serve as a bridge to physically connect
  Faith-Based leaders and Community Non- Profit
  Organizations to people and resources in state
  government

Creation of the Governors Office of Faith Based
Initiatives

• Created by an Executive Order March 14, 2005
• Formalizes the longstanding community and
  faith-based outreach effort of the executive
  branch
• Provides Community and Faith Based Organizations
  with a specific point of contact for information,
  resources and potential opportunities for funding

Role of the Office

• Advise the Governor on policies, priorities and
  objectives for state government activities to
  address social needs in Michigan
• Assist organizations in identifying and applying
  for federal, state, and other funding
  opportunities
• Identify, promote and share innovative and model
  community faith-based programs, initiatives, and
  best practices
• Create an opportunity for Faith based leaders to
  serve as an advisory committee to the Governor
  through the development of the Statewide Faith
  Based Committee and Clergy Leadership Advisory
  Counsel
• Work closely with community and faith-based
• organizations to promote citizen patriotism

Operation of the Office

• Will work with State of Michigan department
  liaisons to determine available funding for
  various initiatives
• Will conduct Regional Workshops, and trainings to
  assist organizations in growing their capacity to
  service the community, through community forums

• Will seek federal Grant Opportunities
• Will partner with State Departments to keep the
  faith based and community partners updated with
  relevant information

Parameters of Activities

• Cannot engage in activity that would violate the
  government prohibition on establishment of
  religion
• Office is focused solely on improving the lives
  of Michigan citizens in local communities
