Family Medical Leave Act
  • Covered employers must grant an eligible employee

during any 12-month period for one or more of the
    following reasons
  • for the birth and care of the newborn child of
    the employee

    condition or
  • to take medical leave when the employee is unable
to work because of a serious health condition.

Fair Labor Standards Act
  • The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), also known
as the federal wage and hour law, regulates
minimum wage, overtime, equal pay, recordkeeping,
and child labor for employees of enterprises
engaged in interstate or foreign commerce and
employees of state and local governments. It is
enforced by the Wage and Hour Division of the
    U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

Americans with Disabilities Act
  • The ADA recognizes and protects the civil rights
of people with disabilities and is modeled after
    earlier landmark laws prohibiting discrimination
on the basis of race and gender. The ADA covers a
wide range of disability, from physical
    conditions affecting mobility, stamina, sight,
hearing, and speech to conditions such as
emotional illness and learning disorders. The ADA
addresses access to the workplace (title I),
State and local government services (title II),
and places of public accommodation and commercial
facilities (title III). It also requires phone
    companies to provide telecommunications relay
services for people who have hearing or speech
    impairments (title IV) and miscellaneous
instructions to Federal agencies that enforce the
law (title V). Regulations issued under the
different titles by various Federal agencies set
    requirements and establish enforcement
procedures. To understand and comply with the
ADA, it is important to follow the appropriate
    regulations.

7
Family Educational Rights Privacy Act
  • FERPA is a Federal law that protects the privacy
of student education records. The law applies to
all schools that receive funds under an
applicable program of the U.S. Department of
    Education.
  • FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect
to their children's education records. These
rights transfer to the student when he or she
reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond
the high school level. Students to whom the
rights have transferred are "eligible students."
