- Beaufort County is located along the coast in
Eastern North Carolina where two major highways
(Hwy 264 and Hwy 17) cross paths. As the only
county in the State to be intersected by a
coastal river several miles wide, Beaufort County
has more shoreline than any other county in the
State.

Cypress Landing is one of Beaufort Countys
premiere communities. It is a favorite location

Beaufort County is known worldwide for Fountain
Powerboats, a major manufacturer of high

holds many speed and racing world records.
9The Turnage Theaters (1918)in Washington
This vintage theater complex hosts authentic
Vaudeville and Palace style theaters, and is
currently the subject of a multi-million dollar
renovation of the entire facility. It is located
in downtown Historic Washington, 1 block from the
Waterfront.
10Whichards Beach
Whichards Beach is one of many waterfront
recreation areas visited by vacationers in
Eastern North Carolina.
11The Aurora Fossil Museum
Home to the worlds largest phosphate source,
Aurora is known for the tremendous amount of high
quality fossils recovered during the mining
process.

Historic District
Washingtons Historic District is home to 3
centuries of period architecture. Homes and
businesses are located a short walk from the
Waterfront.

Cypress Landing has 700 home sites with over 400
homes completed orunder construction. Currently
approximately 35 homes are being built each
year. People are drawn to Cypress Landing from

Cypress Landing is located on Chocowinity Bay, a
part of the Pamlico River. Weyerhaeuser (a

developed Cypress Landing. Cypress Landing was

Known as The Original Washington, Beaufort
County is home to the first city to be named
after General George Washington.
24St. Thomas Church in Bath
The oldest church in North Carolina, St. Thomas
Church was built in 1734. It holds regular
worship services even today.
25The Washington Civic Center
Preservation and conversion of older historically
significant buildings is an important part of
current growth planning efforts. The Washington
Civic Center is the former Atlantic Coastline
train depot, and is used regularly to host a
variety of community events.

Historic buildings are constant reminders of
Beaufort Countys traditions and contributions to
the development of a new America.
27Ahoy Matey Bath is the home of Blackbeard the
Pirate
28North Carolina Beaches
Beaufort County is located a short drive from
many scenic beaches on the North Carolina Outer
Banks. Cape Hatteras, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head,
Atlantic Beach, and Emerald Isle are just a few
of the national draws to the North Carolina coast.
29The Outer Banks
Points of departure for deepwater and other
coastal fishing expeditions are located all along
the North Carolina coast. The lighthouse at Cape
Lookout is a familiar site to boats that travel
the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
30The Elizabeth II
Docked in Manteo, The Elizabeth II is a replica
of ships that regularly traveled to the New
World. Coastal North Carolina is home to many
history related tourist destinations.
