  supports the thesis.
• A claim cannot be a fact.
• A claim should be an element of the major
  argument that is debatable.
• The claim should define any vague or general
  terms it uses.

JUDGING THE EVIDENCE

• Is it accurate?
• Is it from a trustworthy source?
• Is it presented without distortion?
• Is it relevant?
• Is it relevant to the claim you are making?
• Is it current?
• Is it adequate to support the claim?

• Provide the connections between the claims and
  the evidence.
• Indicate how the claims (argument) relate to the
  thesis statement.
• Can also be considered a statement of
  relevance.
