Title: Resurrection of Jesus Christ
1Resurrectionof Jesus Christ
2If I can prove to you thatJesus Christ arose
from the dead..
- Will you ,who have never been baptized into Jesus
Christ do so this morning ? - Those of you who have been baptized and become
unfaithful, will you return to the - Lord Jesus and be restored?
- Those Christians here today who are luke-warm,
who are not really zealous for Christ, - Will you resolve to get excited and be really
- Workers for the Messiah?
3Did The Apostles Preach A Physical Resurrection
Of Jesus?
- Acts 122
- Acts 224
- Acts 231
- 1 Cor. 15
- Acts 315
- Acts 42,
- Acts 410
- Acts 433
- Acts 530
4- Peter speaks about replacing Judas
- Acts 122Â beginning from the baptism of John,
unto that same day that he was taken up from us,
must one be ordained to be a witness with us of
his resurrection. - Peter speaking on Pentecost
- .Acts 224 Â whom God hath raised up, having
loosed the pains of death because it was not
possible that he should be holden of it.
5- Peter explaining on Pentecost
- Acts 2 31Â he seeing this before spake of the
resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not
left in hell, neither his flesh did see
corruption. - Paul writing to the Corinthians
- I Cor. 151-4 Â Moreover, brethren, I declare unto
you the gospel which I preached unto you, which
also ye have received, and wherein ye stand 2Â by
which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory
what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed
in vain. 3Â For I delivered unto you first of all
that which I also received, how that Christ died
for our sins according to the scriptures 4Â and
that he was buried, and that he rose again the
third day according to the scriptures
6- Peters sermon after healing the Lame man,and
pointing to the power by which it was done! - Acts 312 1And when Peter saw it, he answered
unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye
at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as
though by our own power or holiness we had made
this man to walk? - It was done by God through Jesus Christ, whom
ye killed! - Acts 315 Â and killed the Prince of life, whom
God hath raised from the dead whereof we are
witnesses. - Peter and John are put in prisonwhy?
- Acts 42Â being grieved that they taught the
people, and preached through Jesus the
resurrection from the dead.
7- Peter preaches to the Sanhedrin
- Acts 410 Â be it known unto you all, and to all
the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God
raised from the dead, even by him doth this man
stand here before you whole. - The Apostles who prayed for boldness to speak the
Word.. - Acts 433 Â And with great power gave the apostles
witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus
and great grace was upon them all.
8- Peter and the other apostles preach to the
Council who had charged them not to preach - Anymore in the name of Jesus..We must obey God
rather than man!... - Acts 530 Â The God of our fathers raised up
Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. - Then listen to Pauls preaching I Cor. 15
- Especially verse 14 Â and if Christ be not risen,
then is our preaching vain, and your faith is
also vain
9Look what the Apostles didthey preached it!
- His apostles preached that they saw Jesus
after He physically rose from the dead. -
- Acts 122, as one example, finds Peter and the
other apostles choosing an apostle who was to
become a witness of the resurrection of Christ. - Then, on the Day of Pentecost, Peter insisted
in his sermon to the multitude that had assembled
to hear him that God raised up Jesus and thus
loosed Him from the pangs of death (Acts 224). - And to make sure that his audience understood
that it was a physical resurrection, Peter stated
specifically that Jesus flesh did not see
corruption (Acts 231). His point was clear
Jesus had been physically raised from the dead
and the apostles had witnessed the resurrected
Christ. -
10How Did Jesus Christ Die?
- Johns Account
- 30Â When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar,
he said, It is finished and he bowed his head,
and gave up the ghost.
11What Do Others Say?
- Tacitus, the ancient Roman historian writing in
approximately A.D. 115, documented Christs
physical demise when he wrote concerning the
Christians that their originator, Christ, had
been executed in Tiberius reign by the governor
of Judea, Pontius Pilatus (1952, 15.44).
12Evidence Is Overwhelming!
- The early disciples traveled far and wide to
proclaim the central theme - Christ died for our sins according to the
scriptures and that he was buried and that he
hath been raised on the third day according to
the scriptures (1 Corinthians 153-4).
13Did The Apostles Suffer Die Because Of Teaching
The Resurrection?
- For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles
last of all, as men doomed to death for we are
made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels
and men. We are fools for Christs sake, but ye
are wise in Christ we are weak, but ye are
strong ye have glory, but we have dishonor. Even
unto this present hour we both hunger, and
thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have
no certain dwelling-place and we toil, working
with our own hands being reviled, we bless
being persecuted, we endure being defamed, we
entreat we are made as the filth of the world,
the offscouring of all things, even until now (1
Corinthians 49-13).
14JESUS AROSE!
- The former treatise I made, O Theophilus,
concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to
teach, until the day in which he was received up,
after that he had given commandment through the
Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen
To whom he also showed himself alive after his
passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by
the space of forty days, and speaking the things
concerning the kingdom of God (Acts 11-3).
15It is true that --Jesus was raisedfrom the dead!
- Do you believe that???
- He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words,
has that which judges him the word that I have
spoken will judge him in the last day." (John
1248, NKJV) - "Then He said to them all, If anyone
desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."
(Luke 923, NKJV) - "No servant can serve two masters for
either he will hate the one and love the other,
or else he will be loyal to the one and despise
the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."
(Luke 1613, NKJV) - "He who finds his life will lose it, and he
who loses his life for My sake will find it."
(Matthew 1039, NKJV) - Therefore let all the house of Israel know
assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you
crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts 236,
NKJV)
16Is there a contradiction in the Bible about his
Resurrection?
- They are supplementary (with each writer
adding names to make the list more complete), but
they are not contradictory. - If John had said only Mary Magdalene
visited the tomb, or if Matthew had stated that
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were the only
women to visit the tomb, then there would be a
contradiction. - As it stands, however, no contradiction
occurs.
17A Good Illustration I found
- Suppose you have 10 one-dollar bills in your
pocket. - Someone comes up to you and asks, Do you
have a dollar bill in your pocket? Naturally,
you respond in the affirmative. - Suppose another person asks, Do you have
five dollars in your pocket? and again you say
that you do. - Finally, another person asks, Do you have
ten dollars in your pocket? and you say yes for
the third time. - Did you tell the truth every time?
- Yes, you did.
- Were all three statements about the
contents of your pockets different? - Yes, they were. But were any of your answers
contradictory? No, they were not - . How so? The fact is supplementation does
not equal contradiction!
18Someone has said
- In Acts,
- Luke mentions
- 1. 32 Countries
- 2. 54 cities
- 3. 9 Mediterranean islands.
- 4. He also mentions
- .95 persons
- (62) of which are not mentioned
elsewhere in the N.T.,. - And his references, where checkable, are
always correct. - This is truly remarkable, in view of
the fact that the political/territorial situation
of his day was in a state of almost constant
change (1991, 272).
19Jesus Christ is REAL!
- The science of archaeology seems to have
outdone itself in verifying the Scriptures. - Eminent archaeologist William F. Albright
wrote There can be no doubt that archaeology
has confirmed the substantial historicity of the
Old Testament tradition (1953, p. 176). - The late Nelson Glueck, himself a pillar
within the archaeological community, said - It may be stated categorically that no
archaeological discovery has ever controverted a
Biblical reference. - Scores of archaeological findings have been
made which confirm in clear outline or exact
detail historical statements in the Bible (1959,
p. 31).
20All Done In A Corner?
- While Paul was on trial before King Agrippa, he
said to Festus For the king knoweth of these
things, unto whom also I speak freely for I am
persuaded that none of these things is hidden
from him for this hath not been done in a
corner (Acts 2626).
21- "Why should it be thought incredible by you that
God raises the dead?" (Acts 268, NKJV)
22Acts 1722-32
- 22Â Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars hill,
and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in
all things ye are too superstitious. 23Â For as I
passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an
altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare
I unto you. 24Â God that made the world and all
things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven
and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with
hands 25Â neither is worshipped with mens hands,
as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth
to all life, and breath, and all things 26Â and
hath made of one blood all nations of men for to
dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath
determined the times before appointed, and the
bounds of their habitation 27Â that they should
seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after
him, and find him, though he be not far from
every one of us 28Â for in him we live, and move,
and have our being as certain also of your own
poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
23Acts 1722-32
- 29Â Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God,
we ought not to think that the Godhead is like
unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and
mans device. 30Â And the times of this ignorance
God winked at but now commandeth all men every
where to repent 31Â because he hath appointed a
day, in the which he will judge the world in
righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained
whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in
that he hath raised him from the dead. - 32Â And when they heard of the resurrection of the
dead, some mocked and others said, We will hear
thee again of this matter.
24JESUS IS REAL!!
- He was on this earth.
- He died on the cross.
- He arose from the grave.
- He ascended into Heaven from this earth!
- And,
- He will come againI know He will.
- Because He said that he would.
25Acts 19-11
- 9Â And when he had spoken these things, while they
beheld, he was taken up and a cloud received him
out of their sight. 10Â And while they looked
stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold,
two men stood by them in white apparel 11Â which
also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing
up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken
up from you into heaven, shall so come in like
manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
26- I want to be with Himdont you?
- I want to go to Heaven when I die..dont you?
- I have to believe and obey, just like you
- if I want to dwell with my Saviour forevermore.
- Jesus wants you to be baptized. He said
soMark 1615,16 - Jesus wants you to be faithful. He said so.
- I Cor. 1558
- When we sin as children of God, which we
do, we can go to the Lord for - His forgiveness. I John 21-2
27I KNOW JESUS DIEDAND THAT HE AROSE!
- Matt.285-6Â And the angel answered and said unto
the women, Fear not ye for I know that ye seek
Jesus, which was crucified. 6Â He is not here for
he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place
where the Lord lay. - Mark 165-6 Â And entering into the sepulchre,
they saw a young man sitting on the right side,
clothed in a long white garment and they were
affrighted. 6Â And he saith unto them, Be not
affrighted Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was
crucified he is risen he is not here behold
the place where they laid him. - Luke 245-6 5Â and as they were afraid, and bowed
down their faces to the earth, they said unto
them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6Â He
is not here, but is risen remember how he spake
unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
28John 201-10
- Â The first day of the week cometh Mary
Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the
sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from
the sepulchre. 2Â Then she runneth, and cometh to
Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom
Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken
away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know
not where they have laid him. 3Â Peter therefore
went forth, and that other disciple, and came to
the sepulchre. 4Â So they ran both together and
the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came
first to the sepulchre. 5Â And he stooping down,
and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying yet
went he not in.
29- 6Â Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went
into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes
lie, 7Â and the napkin, that was about his head,
not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped
together in a place by itself. 8Â Then went in
also that other disciple, which came first to the
sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. 9Â For as yet
they knew not the scripture, that he must rise
again from the dead. - 10Â Then the disciples went away again unto their
own home.
30God wants you to believe inJesus
- And obey HimHeb. 58,9
- Softly and Tenderly Jesus is calling..
- Will you, please, come to Him Now.
- 2 Cor. 62
