Martins Childhood

• Martin was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta,
  Georgia
• His birth name was Michael Luther King
• Martin was the youngest in his family

School life for Martin

• He was so smart he skipped 9th and 12th grade
• He went to college at the age of 15
• He went to Morehouse College in Atlanta to become
  a preacher
• While in college he found the girl of his dreams

After College

• Martin married Coretta Scott in 1953
• They had four children Yolanda Denise, Martin
  Luther III, Dexter Scott, and Bernice Albertine

His job

• Martin got a job at Avenue Baptist Church as a
  pastor
• There he developed his powerful speaking voice he
  would later use for his speeches

His life during the civil rights movement

• One of the first things he did to help was
  organize a boycott on a bus system
• He later did a March on Washington DC on the
  100th anniversary of the Emancipation
  Proclamation with 200000 followers
• Wrote four speeches Stride toward Freedom, Why
  We Can't Wait, and Where Do We Go from Here
  Chaos or Community, and I Have a Dream

His reward

• For all his effort for stopping discrimination
  against blacks, Hispanics and other races he was
  given the Noble Peace Prize
• It was given to him in 1964

Martins death

• Martin was shot by James Earl Ray in 1968 at the
  age of 37
• Sadly he did not live to continue his work

• To honor Martin Luther King Jr. they gave him a
  holiday so we can remember one of the greatest
  men in this country
