2Discipline Procedures
- Color coded system
- Green OK

3- Responsibility/Behavior Marks
- Given for behavior problems and missing or late
assignments. Items brought to school by parents
will not be delivered to the classrooms until the
end of the school day. - Marks will be given for students failing to bring
in a signed note explaining their absence. - All marks must be signed with a full parent
signature and returned to school the next school
day. - 5 responsibility marks in a trimester will result
in a detention. This number drops to 4 in the
third trimester. -

4Math
- Daily review using Simple Solutions books
- Quizzes are generally on Wednesdays
- Previous 4 lessons few problems from the weeks
new material (topics will be announced) - Daily lessons will build on prior knowledge
- In math notebooks, students write down the topics
we are covering - Textbooks are mainly for reference and additional
- practice. They can be taken home any
night. - Unannounced timed tests
5Science
- Major focus is biomes

- Notes and packets are used to supplement textbook
- Spring unit will be simple machines

8Reading
- Use the textbooks to teach different reading
skills such as cause and effect, predicting
outcomes, main idea. - Reading program is supplemented with different
trade books.
9Outside Reading
- Monthly book projects that will relate to the
different genres. - Each student is required to read at least three
Accelerated Books per trimester. The books must
be at an appropriate level for each student .
Book reviews may be substituted for AR tests per
teacher approval.
10English
- Heavy emphasis on writing process
- Use of school publishing materials
- Integrate writing to the different curriculum
areas - Study of grammar and the different parts of
speech and emphasize using them in writing. - Daily practice with editing skills and journal
writing through Simple Solutions - Weekly quizzes in Simple Solutions (Normally on
Tuesdays)

11Writing in the Content Areas
- Students will be held accountable for applying
grade level appropriate capitalization and
punctuation rules. - Students are responsible for correctly spelling
the no excuses word list and words found
directly on the page.
12Spelling/Vocabulary
- Weekly list entered around a basic rule or sound.
- Weekly practice work due on Thursday.
- Pretests will be given in Spelling and Vocabulary
on Mondays (4B, 4O). If the student scores a
100, then s/he is exempt from the corresponding
test that week. - Tests on Friday
- Spelling grades will be given for weekly spelling
tests. - Sentence dictation tests (4C) and basic list
tests. - English grade (4C) will also be given for
dictation sentence tests. Grade based on
capitalization and punctuation.
13Social Studies
- Half of the year is spent studying the different
regions of the United States. - Students will have regional map tests that build
as the year progresses. Tests include location,
capitals, and abbreviations. - The remainder of fourth grade is spent on Ohio
studies - Geography, resources, the settling of
Ohio, Early Statehood, Challenge and Growth, Ohio

14Make-up Work Policy
- A student who has been absent should consult the
class make-up folder for the class activities,
assignments, and handouts that he/she missed. - Work that was assigned before an absence should
be ready to be turned in upon arrival back to
school. We will not remind students to do this.
- Students are not able to receive any work prior
to absences (see handbook). - Students who have unexcused absences, regardless
of their length, will be given 3 days to make up
the work (student must request the work).
Students may be asked to complete work during
recess. - Students need to be prepared to take tests that
were posted prior to an absence, on the day they
return to school.
15Technology
- Computer lab once a week
- Technology projects are driven by the regular
curriculum - Use Microsoft products to complete different
activities - Use Internet Web Quest activities when possible
- Heavy concentration on keyboarding
16Homework
- Each day, students will copy their work into
their planner. - Activities that get completed in class will be
crossed off. At the end of the day, anything not
crossed off is homework. - Homework Hints
- Students have homework every night
- Daily studying, reading AR books, facts review
etc. - Check your childs planner each evening to help
him/her stay organized and make sure they are
completing the necessary work (Parents do not
need to sign student planners). - Help teach students organization by recording
projects and weekly assignments along with due
dates on a calendar. - If you need an extra copy of project directions,
check out the fourth grade website. - Ask your child if they understand their homework.
If they do not, work a few examples together. - Dont do your childs work for them. Help them
learn how to do it themselves.
