Organizational History
The United Way concept emerged in 1891 in Denver,
Colorado
Denver residents realized the need to improved
living conditions for gold prospectors, fortune
hunters and their families.
Three community leaders formed a committee to
solicit funds to help those in need and the idea
was born.
San Juan United Way incorporated in 1960 as
Farmington United Fund
During the past 49 years, SJUW has grown from
supporting only a few agencies to providing
funding for 41 programs within 18 agencies.
3
Mission
to provide for those in need today, to prevent
the problems of tomorrow
4
Our Goal ...
to serve and support each individual in our
communities by
1. Working with our community to identify the
most pressing problems affecting our neighbors
2. Mobilizing our community to improve lives by
creating lasting changes in community conditions
3. Measuring our success by the number of lives
that are improved as a result of changes in
community conditions and reporting those results
back to YOU!
