Title: The BallTech System
1The BallTech System
- On-Line cleaning system for chiller condenser
tubes
2- The efficiency of water cooled condensers
deteriorates over time due to fouling of the
tubes. - Fouling is recognised as an unavoidable
performance impediment by chiller manufacturers
and is allowed as part of their design spec.
described as fouling factor. - This deterioration in condenser efficiency
adversely affects the chiller C.O.P. (Co-efficient
of performance) - A chillers output per unit of energy consumed by
its compressor is described as the chiller C.O.P. - A deterioration of the chiller C.O.P results in
an unnecessary increase in energy consumption.

4- Microbiological film, which is prevalent in all
chillers, impedes heat transfer at a greater rate
than scale. -
- Scientific evidence has shown that
microbiological film deposited on a condensers
tubes surface has five times the heat transfer
reduction effect of a layer of scale at the same
thickness.

6- condensers are affected by biofilm growth and
other hard sediments like scale. - Chemical treatment can only control the fouling
but cannot eliminate it. - Regular mechanical cleaning is required to
maintain condenser efficiency within acceptable
limits.

15Measuring and Verification
- Chiller output is calculated after measuring the
chilled water flow rate and the difference in the
chilled water temperature across the evaporator. - Measuring the chiller C.O.P under the same steady
state conditions before and after mechanical
cleaning or BallTech installation will illustrate
the chiller improvement and highlight the impact
of fouling on operational efficiency. - The results demonstrate the energy savings
achieved by maintaining perpetually clean
condenser tubes.

17Pay back period
- Return on investment will be a function of
- System cost
- Energy cost usage and peak demand
- Annual chiller operating hours.
- Annual average chiller load.
- In addition - water, chemical and maintenance
savings will be observed after the first year. - The typical payback period for an office building
is between 2 and 3 years.
