Infinitives

• The original dictionary form of the verb.
• German infinitives end in n or en
• English infinitives are marked with the word to
  before the verbe.g. to play

Formation of the Present Tense

• First remove the n or en of the infinitive
• Add the following endings to the root
• -e -en
• -st -t
• -t -en

• The one present tense in German expresses the
  several ways we convey the present tense in
  English
• Ich spiele I play, I am playing, I do play.
• Ich höre I listen, I am listening, I do listen.

Negation of the Present Tense

• To negate a sentence in the present tense in
  English add a nicht at the end of the sentence
• Wir spielen heute Fussball nicht.
• We arent playing soccer today.
• We dont play soccer today.
