Tikki Tikki Tembo
  • A Chinese Folk Tale

2
  • Long ago it was a Chinese custom to give great,
long names to the first and honored son but less
important, short names to the second son. This
was the case in one small village.

3
  • In a house near the old well there lived a woman.
She had two sons. The younger sons name was
Chang, which means Little One. But her first
and honored son had a long, important name..

    in the world.
  • Each morning the mother and her sons would cross
the little bridge to get to the stream.

6
  • The boys would play as their mother washed
clothes. She warned them not to go near the well.
  • But one day they were playing to close when Chang
    fell in the well.

  • went back to his mother and said, Chang fell
    into the well.
  • (water noise)
  • But the water in the stream made so much
noise that his mother could not hear
    him.

8
  • So in a louder voice he said, Chang fell into
    the well.
  • (water noise)
  • His mother still couldnt hear him.
  • ..and so he raised his voice even louder and
    said,
  • Chang fell into the well.

9
  • When his mother finally heard him, she told him
to quickly go and get the Old Man with the
ladder, and she would meet them at the well. So.
  • (Tikki Tikki Tembo)

10
  • brought the Old Man to the well where he rescued
Chang. The boys mother was happy and very
grateful to the Old Man. When they got back to
the village and the people heard what had
happened, they were so happy for Chang, they had
    a big celebration.
