  • And I will appoint you as a covenant to the
people, As a light to the nations, 7 To open
blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the
dungeon, And those who dwell in darkness from
    the prison.

Dead and Gone
  • Matt 91-19/23-26
  •  While He was saying these things to them, a
synagogue official came and bowed down before
Him, and said, "My daughter has just died but
come and lay Your hand on her, and she will
live." 19 Jesus got up and began to follow him,
    and so did His disciples.
  • 23 When Jesus came into the official 's house,
and saw the flute-players and the crowd in noisy
disorder, 24 He said, "Leave for the girl has
not died, but is asleep." And they began laughing
at Him. 25 But when the crowd had been sent out,
He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl
got up. 26 This news spread throughout all that
    land.

8
Just when you think it is over
  • The girl was dead
  • The disorder was the result of professional
mourners. She had been dead some time.
  • How do we know?
  • A crowd had gathered
  • The professional wailers had come
  • The orchestra had also arrived.
  • It was the funeral time

9
No laughing matter
  • When Jesus says that she is sleeping, the
    attendants laugh.
  • Why did they laugh?
  • Odd behavior for a funeral-should be solemn.
  • Fear causes nervous laughtera nervous response.
  • How would you feel if you were at the casket of a
departed loved one and a guy came up and said
She isnt dead. Ill wake her up?

10
Death Swallowed in Victory
  • He entered and took her by the hand, and the
girl got up. 26 This news spread throughout all
    that land
  • When Jesus takes our hand, even death can not
hold us. He will one day wake us up from our
    sleep.

11
Sick Woman-Issue of blood
  • In the midst of the previous scene, another
    miracle occurs.
  • 920-22
  • And a woman who had been suffering from a
hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him
and touched the fringe of His cloak 21 for she
was saying to herself, "If I only touch His
garment, I will get well." 22 But Jesus turning
and seeing her said, "Daughter, take courage
your faith has made you well." At once the woman
    was made well.

12
Desperate Faith
  • If only..
  • Touching Jesus is all it takes
  • Risk of rejection. It was a gamble of faith
  • She was unclean, He was spotless
  • In desperation she grabbed the fringe (Tzit-Tzit)
    of his garment.
  • His power is complete and sufficient

13
2 Blind Men
  • 927-31
  •  As Jesus went on from there, two blind men
followed Him, crying out, "Have mercy on us, Son
of David!" 28 When He entered the house, the
blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to
them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"
They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." 29 Then He
touched their eyes, saying, "It shall be done to
you according to your faith." 30 And their eyes
were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them "See
that no one knows about this!" 31 But they went
out and spread the news about Him throughout all
    that land.

14
The Real Question
  • Do you believe
  • Why did He ask them? Hadnt they already
demonstrated that they believed by asking?
  • Asking does not mean believing.
  • Jesus wants us to commit to faith-Speak it before
others..this is where the risk is.
  • We receive according to our measure of faith.

15
Withered
  • Matt 129-14
  • 9 And departing from there, He went into their
synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man with a
withered hand. And they questioned Him, saying,
"Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"in order
that they might accuse Him. 11 And He said to
them, "What man shall there be among you, who
shall have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit
on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it, and
lift it out? 12 "Of how much more value then is a
man than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do
good on the Sabbath." 13 Then He said to the
man, "Stretch out your hand!" And he stretched it
out, and it was restored to normal, like the
other. 14 But the Pharisees went out, and
counseled together against Him, as to how they
    might destroy Him.

16
The Lord of the Sabbath
  • Jesus was concerned more about the person than a
    regulation.
  • God desires mercy not Sacrifice
  • We are a withered people
  • When we reach out what the world has withered,
Jesus reaches out and restores us.

17
Conclusions
  • We serve a God that proved He was God by His
    power over sickness and death.
  • Only God can raise the dead.
  • Death is in His hands
  • There were many witnesses to support the claim
  • If the power to heal is in Jesus and Jesus is in
us, then the power of God to heal is in us.
  • He is still God, our healer.

18
Casting out Demons
  • Matt 101
  • Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them
authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out,
and to heal every kind of disease and every kind
    of sickness.

19
Before the Time
  • Matt 828-32
  • When He came to the other side into the country
of the Gadarenes, two men who were
demon-possessed met Him as they were coming out
of the tombs. They were so extremely violent that
no one could pass by that way. 29 And they cried
out, saying, "What business do we have with each
other, Son of God? Have You come here to torment
us before the time?" 30 Now there was a herd of
many swine feeding at a distance from them.
31 The demons began to entreat Him, saying, "If
You are going to cast us out, send us into the
herd of swine." 32 And He said to them, "Go!" And
they came out and went into the swine, and the
whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the
sea and perished in the waters.

20
Pearl Before Swine
  • The Demons knew Jesus as the Son of God
  • They knew what He would do
  • They Admit that there would be a time of judgment
  • They Expected to have authority over the man
    until that time
  • They were cast into pigs because they are an
    image of uncleanness.
  • Why not just leave the man? Why into the pigs if
they were going to die anyway?

21
Houses of the Damned
  • Matt 1243-45
  • "Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man,
it passes through waterless places seeking rest,
and does not find it. 44 "Then it says, 'I will
return to my house from which I came' and when
it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put
in order. 45 "Then it goes and takes along with
it seven other spirits more wicked than itself,
and they go in and live there and the last state
of that man becomes worse than the first. That is
the way it will also be with this evil
    generation."

22
Destined for destruction
  • Demons fins no rest unless they possess
  • You are a house for God or for Demons
  • The ultimate goal is destruction of the house
  • They have an aversion to water (They go to arid
places)the pigs ran into the sea.

23
The Demons and Deafness
  • 932-34
  •  As they were going out, a mute, demon-possessed
man was brought to Him. 33 After the demon was
cast out, the mute man spoke and the crowds were
amazed, and were saying, "Nothing like this has
ever been seen in Israel." 34 But the Pharisees
were saying, "He casts out the demons by the
    ruler of the demons
  • Matt 1222-24
  • Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute
was brought to Jesus , and He healed him, so that
the mute man spoke and saw. 23 All the crowds
were amazed, and were saying, "This man cannot be
the Son of David, can he?" 24 But when the
Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts
out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the
    demons."

24
Be Quiet in the Name of Satan
  • His muteness was a result of demonic oppression
    from within
  • When Satan get a stronghold, he is able to shut
    us up.
  • When Jesus sets us free, Satan cant keep us
    quiet.
  • 1 Cor 123
  • Therefore I make known to you, that no one
speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is
accursed" and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord,"
    except by the Holy Spirit.

25
Prayer and Fasting
  • Matt 1714-21
  • When they came to the crowd, a man came up to
Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and
saying, 15 "Lord , have mercy on my son, for he
is a lunatic and is very ill for he often falls
into the fire and often into the water. 16 "I
brought him to Your disciples, and they could not
cure him." 17 And Jesus answered and said, "You
unbelieving and perverted generation, how long
shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with
you? Bring him here to Me." 18 And Jesus rebuked
him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy
was cured at once. 19 Then the disciples came to
Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not drive
it out?" 20 And He said to them, "Because of the
littleness of your faith for truly I say to you,
if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you
will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to
there,' and it will move and nothing will be
impossible to you. 21 "But this kind does not go
out except by prayer and fasting."

26
Lunacy
  • A lunatic (Effected by the moon).mad
  • What caused it?
  • Perverseness
  • Results in falling
  • Fire
  • Water
  • Both are agents of destructionThe demon is
    trying to destroy the man

27
Faith, Prayer, Fasting
  • They could not drive it out.Why
  • Littleness of faith
  • Lack of prayer
  • Lack of fasting
  • When all three are present, we have a triune
weapon, the perfect and complete weapon against
    the enemy.

28
Conclusion
  • There is demon possession
  • Demons are in the business of property
    acquisition and demolition
  • They have been given limited dominion
  • They can repossess a property that has not been
    occupied
  • The house must be guarded
