    information

projects such as the Miss G Project, that seeks
to install womens studies programs in Ontario
    School System

6
  • Empowerment strategies for women
  • Micro (you)
  • Find, identify and understand Your role model
male or female. Empowerment often happens
through mentorship. Find a female role model
close to you and articulate what qualities you
    appreciate.
  • Meso
  • Community programs that use art (in any form
media, paint, drama, comedy, etc.) as a tool to
influence behaviour change and change social
    norms.
  • More leadership programmes, grants and challenges
    for women.
  • Activities that men and women can do together,
    i.e. community development projects.
  • Macro
  • Law and legislature against domestic abuse
  • National policy making boards that ensure that
50 of members are women. Too many of our top
decisions are made by men who represent only 50
    of the population.

7
  • For Child Labour
  • Micro Solutions (what you can do!)
  • Find out if your government has ratified the
conventions concerning Child Labour No. 182
(which is associated with prohibiting children
from being in the worst forms of labour, making
a mandatory minimum age for certain employments,
    offering education, rehabilitation, social
    integration, etc.)
  • If your government has (like Canada) write to
your government and ask what is being done to
    implement it
  • If they have not, write your government and urge
    them to ratify it
  • Organize forums at your school to learn more, or
    share information
  • Support federal legislature that will improve
child labour conditions in your country
  • Find out what other initiatives exist and support
    them, or start your own
  • Shop Smart know where your stuff was made and
who made it. Use ethical purchasing to improve
    the lives of many children
  • Start a letter-writing campaign or a petition to
send to local or national authorities outlining
    your concerns
  • Meso Solutions
  • Organizations should help rehabilitate child
    soldiers and labourers through counseling
  • Macro Solutions
  • Pressure should be put on all the governments of
ILO member countries, that have not yet ratified
the Conventions Concerning Child Labour, to
    ratify it
  • Countries should take steps towards addressing
Child Labour on a federal level through the
implementation of an action plan associated with
    the convention concerning Child Labour

8
  • For Malnutrition
  • Micro Solutions
  • Encourage your government to pursue Triangular
Food Aid, or Local purchase aid instead of direct
    transfer or tied food aid
  • Meso Solutions
  • Organizations that provide food aid could change
    their method of delivery
  • Organizations that do not provide food aid could
    start
  • Macro Solutions
  • Enact a policy to increase the Food Aid in
general, and specifically the food aid provided
through Triangular Food Aid or Local Purchase
  • Note Triangular Food Aid and Local Purchase is
more beneficial than Direct Transfer because it
does not merely provide food for one crisis, but
helps with the economy of the country in need, or
other developing countries. Iit uses local food,
or food from other developing countries, rather
than the food from a developed nation. This
enables developing countries to gradually be able
    to support themselves, when receiving
international help instead of them becoming
    dependent on developed countries.

9
  • Solutions with regards to NGOs and Governments
  • There is a great need for NGOs to build a good
relationship with the governments of those
countries in order for the projects to be
successful, especially in the following areas
  • Establishing a concrete working relationship
between the government and the NGOs at national
    and local levels, and internationally.
  • Enhancing the commitment by the NGOs and local
    communities toward peace and reconciliation.
  • Building a consensus between NGOs and local
    communities, especially with religious leaders,
chiefs, and community based organizations (CBO)
    Women and Youth groups.
  • Establishing concrete relationships with
    humanitarian human rights NGOs.
