1Animal Plant Cells
2Nucleus
The nucleus contains the cells genetic
information. The function of the nucleus is to
control the cells activities.
3Nucleolus
The nucleolus is composed of protein and is
involved in the formation of ribosomes.
4Nuclear Pore
The nuclear pore is an opening in the nucleus
that allows molecules to come in and out.
5Chromosomes
The chromosomes contain DNA strands that is
essential for the cell to develop.
6Vacuole
The vacuole is found in both animal and plant
cells, though it is larger in a plant cell. The
vacuoles main function is to release cellular
waste and help the cell digest.
7Cell Wall
The cell wall is only found in a plant cell and
is located outside the cell membrane. It acts
like a gate, controlling movement into and out of
the cell and provides extra protection for the
plant cell.
8Cell Membrane
The cell membrane is found in both animal and
plant cells and is also known as the plasma
membrane. The cell membrane forms a barrier
around the cell making two different
environments.
9Chloroplast
The chloroplast is found only in the plant cell.
The chloroplast is where photosynthesis occurs.
10Cytoplasm
The cytoplasm is found in both plant and animal
cells, however it is much larger in an animal
cell. The cytoplasm is a gel like substance that
fills the cell. It is mostly made up of water.
11Ribosome
The ribosome is located in both types of
cells. The ribosomes main function is to collect
proteins through a process called translation.
12Mitochondria
The mitochondria is the main power source for the
cell. It produces cellular energy. In addition to
this the mitochondria has control of cell growth
and the cell cycle.
13Golgi Apparatus
The golgi apparatus is found in both types of
cells. The golgi apparatus processes and packages
proteins and liquids.
14Lysosome
Lysosomes are found in both animal and plant
cells. They contain digestive enzymes to help
with cellular digestion.
15Endoplasmic Reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulums function is to
transport chemicals within the cell. It also
provides a large surface area for cell
organization.
It is located in both plant and animal cells.
16Microtubule
The microtubule is a cellular component that is
involved in many processes such as mitosis.
17Cytoskeleton
The cytoskeleton is the backbone of the cell. It
protects the cell, enables cellular motion,
maintains the cells shape and is important in
intracellular transport and cellular division.
18Centriole
The centriole is found in most animal cells and
very few plant cells. The centriole is a small
dark body outside the nucleus during the process
of mitosis.
19Plastid
The plastid is found in plant cell. It plays an
important role in photosynthesis by helping
determine the plants colour. The plastid also
stores chemicals.
20Chromatin
Chromatin is the protein and DNA that makes up
the chromosomes. The chromatins main function
is to make the DNA smaller so it can fit in the
cell and to strengthen it.
