Customer Accomplishments The SECS Teacher Test
Centre has been operating very successfully
during this peak time of year. The new
Journalism course started in Milldam and the
Newsroom has been the centre of much interest
both internally and externally. It is due to
receive a visit from Boris Johnson in December!
Student take-up for future years would not appear
to be a problem at present. In spite of the
basement being flooded, affecting teaching spaces
and the Coffee Shop, St Georges departments have
managed to keep to their planned schedules.
Customer activities and key dates XP has been
rolled out to many Humanities departments and
staff this month. Some issues with SECS Access
databases. All departments are preparing for
transfer to Groupwise in November. All schools
top priority has been to get ready and cope with
the student intake using the new Jupiter system
and to provide for induction of new students. The
year has started well.
Issues and outages The Journalism Newsroom was
late on handover and consequently some of the
advanced computer facilities are not fully
operational yet. This is not affecting
teaching. Registry has said it will review the
use of Park rooms during the Summer for
University activities There has been some delay
in the provision of new PCs under the Managed PC
Scheme. The Schools IT User Groups have met and
issues raised addressed. SLAS had a follow up
meeting to review the new IS Servicedesk and
Service Delivery team arrangements the XP
rollout the Melissi language labs status WebCT
operation and Park open access. The ICJS User
Group is being re-launched as the ICJS IT and
e-Learning Group.

IS Accomplishment The formation and mode of
operation of the IS Humanities Service Delivery
Team has been publicised to all schools. The team
members hours of work and contracts have been
agreed and finalised as at the start of academic
year and the teams office in St Georges has been
completely re-furbished with new furniture, PCs
and office services. Visit to Sigma Research in
London to identify needs.
Future planned work and exposure to risks Start
of evening opening of the Park Open Access
facilities using student personnel. PC rolldowns
in SLAS and SSHLS. Completion of the XP rollout
to staff. The rollout of Groupwise to Humanities
is scheduled for 3 weeks in November.
Customer and Business Concerns/Status/Accomplishme
nts School technicians have recently been lost
in ICJS and SSHLS and the debate continues about
the functionality required for technical support
and how to provide it (School, IS, DCQE
etc) SLAS and SECS are keen to enhance the
wireless coverage for Park and St Georges
buildings teaching areas and IS work has recently
started. Humanities has concerns about Open
Access development, how they might be affected
and has asked to be given the opportunity to
contribute to proposals. There is continuing
discussion about the PC and Laptop Managed
Schemes and purchasing equipment to match
requirements. A review of the facultys stock has
begun with a view to identifying replacements
over the next 3 years to complete the 4 year
cycle. The faculty is interested in what IS will
be able to offer through its on-line training
developments for staff. Macromedia products
future licensing and cost?
