This popular area of the college currently houses
over 60 networked computers all with Windows XP,
Office 2003, internet access plus a host of other
software. You can use this area on a drop-in
basis providing you are not scheduled to be in
a timetabled lesson. Group machines and silent
study area.

7Help Support
- The Project Area staff are available to offer
help and support to students using our IT
facilities. - One to one sessions can be booked if you are
struggling with a particular IT task. - Self help Fact Sheets and manuals are
available, also you can use the online help
within each package. - FREE IT course (A Touch of IT) covering word
processing and internet is available for complete
beginners.
8ID Cards
- It is a requirement of the college that ID cards
are VISIBLE at all times - You will be UNABLE to use the Learning Resources
Centre facilities without your ID card - First card is FREE and is issued with a holder
and lanyard, replacements cost 50p and are
available from our desk
9Logging On to the network
- Your ID card displays your computer username.
This is the number (bottom right corner) on your
ID card in red. - The first time you log into the college network
you will be asked to create a password (min of 5
characters). - For full instructions see page 10 of the green
LRC Guide - Once you have logged in you are automatically
assigned your own space on the college network -
this is referred to as your H\ drive. - Your files are accessible from every machine in
college, home or anywhere that has internet
access. (For full instructions see page 12 of the
green LRC Guide).
10Using the computers
- Hand in your ID card at desk and wait for a
computer to be allocated to you. - Computers can be reserved up to one week in
advance. (if we are full you must give a minimum
of 2 hours notice) - If you have not arrived for your computer
reservation within 15 minutes - the booking will
be cancelled. - Please do not use the centre if you are scheduled
to be in a timetabled lesson.
11Internet Email
- Whilst Free internet access is available on ALL
computers, compliance with the Computer/Internet
Policy is required at all times. - The following restrictions apply whilst using any
computer throughout the College- - No chat, games, pornography, violence, offensive
material, downloading or installing software, or
using anyone elses ID card or username - FREE e-mail accounts are available from sites
such as Yahoo, Excite or Hotmail.
12Henley Online
- Comprises of two main resources
- WebCT a password protected route to your online
classroom, featuring, assignments, handouts,
exercises, group e-mail, interactive calendar,
group discussion boards - Intranet - an open access learning resource
featuring support for key skills, study skills,
e.library.
13Printing Allowance
- Every student is allocated 500 A4 blank sheets of
paper automatically upon enrolment of their first
course, per year. - Each A4 printout is deducted as follows
- 1 credit will be deducted if printed on a black
ink printer - 5 credits will be deducted if printed on a
colour printer - If any subsequent enrolments occur in the same
year please ask the project area staff to
increase your printing allowance - as this is not
done automatically. - When my printing allowance runs out it is my
responsibility to purchase additional printing
credits from the LRC
14Computer access will be denied if
- you have overdue library materials/fines
- you have outstanding finance fees
- you have forgotten your password
- your network account has been suspended
- your course has finished
- you have been withdrawn from your course
- OR your enrolment form still in system

19How do I join the library?
- All Henley College students join the library
automatically. Your ID card is also your library
card.
20How many items can I borrow?
- You may borrow up to 6 items or 8 if you are on
an HE (Higher Education) course. - Please DO NOT take items out for other students
or lend books issued on your ticket to others. - There is a security system in operation, please
have ALL items issued to you before leaving the
LRC.
21How long can I borrow books ?
- Normal loan 3 weeks
- Week loan 7 days
- Short loan 2 days
- Reference read in library only

- do not disturb other users.
- Quiet Zone silent study
23How do I find information?
- Books are in a numerical sequence.
- Journals are in alphabetical order.
- Use the library catalogue, it can also be

- Compliance with the Computer/Internet Policy
- If you do not comply with the above, information
will be recorded as evidence and you will be
asked to leave the LRC for the rest of the day - Compliance with the LRC Code of Conduct -
behaviour - Compliance with requests made by staff in
particular Health Safety - Fire Exit - Dont leave valuables un-attended
- No eating or drinking in any part of the LRC
- Mobiles must be on silent and answered in the
corridor outside the LRC - Place of study NOT a social centre
