Law 13 Kick Off and Re-starts
  • Wrong type of kick or wrong place team has two
    options
  • Kick off again
  • Scrum at the centre of half way
  • Kickers team in front Scrum at centre of half
    way
  • Opposing team in front of 10m or charge then kick
    off again
  • If Ball doesnt go 10m then
  • Kick off again, or
  • Scrum at centre of half way

  • If ball goes directly in to touch
  • Kick off again, or
  • Have a scrum at the centre of half way, or
  • Accept the kick
  • If ball goes into in-goal without having touched
    or being touched by a player the opposing team
    has 3 choices
  • Ground the ball, or
  • Make it dead,
  • Play one
  • If they ground it or make it dead or it goes dead
    or touch in goal then two options
  • Scrum
  • Re-kick
  • Note they must do this without delay or they have
    chosen to play on.

  • Drop Out incorrectly taken
  • Another drop out, or
  • Scrum at the centre of 22m line.
  • If drop out doesnt go across the line then same
    as above.
  • Drop out goes directly in to touch then the same
    happens as a kick off except everything is on the
    22m line.
  • Same applies to a D.O going in to the opponents
    in goal.

  • Kickers team must be behind the ball when kicked.
    However wont be penalised if the kick is taken
    quickly provided they dont stop retiring and
    dont take part in play. If they do then scrum at
    centre of 22m line.
  • Opposing team must not charge over the 22m line
    until ball is kicked. (FK)
  • Opponent on wrong side of 22m line then obstructs
    or delays the d.o. they player is guilty of
    misconduct. (PK on 22m line)

  • Read the definition.
  • Player on the ground with the ball must either
    immediately
  • Get up with the ball, or
  • Pass the ball, or
  • Release the ball
  • If you pass or release then you must get up or
    move away immediately

  • Lay on or near the ball
  • Fall over the player with the ball
  • Fall over players lying on the ground near the
    ball.

  • Can a tackle happen in goal?
  • When are you on the ground?
  • One or both knees
  • Sitting on the ground or on top of a player on
    the ground.
  • What does the tackler have to do?
  • Must release the tackled player
  • Must get up or move away from the tackled player
    and the ball.

  • Must get up or move away at once.
  • Two types of release?
  • Put the ball on the gound
  • Push the ball in any direction except forward
  • Opposition players on there feet tp must release
    the ball.
  • Tackled player may reach out and score a try if
    momentum takes him close enough.

  • How are players classed on their feet?
  • Fully supported by there own feet
  • Where do you enter a tackle from.
  • Through the gate
  • A player on the ground is out of the game, they
    cannot prevent anyone getting the ball or make a
    tackle.
  • TP must be given the opportunity to release or
    pass the ball

  • Fall on or over players on the ground with the
    ball between them or near them.
  • Must not prevent a tp from moving away
  • Must not obstruct or charge an opponent who is
    not near the ball.
  • If unsure who made the ball unplayable what does
    the ref do?
  • Team moving forward prior to whistle, or if none
    then the attacking

  • How do we get a ruck?
  • At least one person from each team in close
    contact around the ball on the ground.
  • Who do you have to bind onto to join a ruck?
  • A player of your team
  • Things you cant do in a ruck?
  • Intentionally fall or kneel
  • Intentionally collapse a ruck
  • Jump on top of a ruck
  • Head and shoulders below their hips
  • Ruck players on the ground

  • Other things you cant do
  • Handle the ball
  • Return the ball to the ruck
  • Pick the ball up with your legs
  • Fall on the ball as it comes out of a ruck
  • Take any action to make the opposing team think
    the ball is out of the ruck
  • Players on the ground must move away from the
    ball and must not interfere with the ball in the
    ruck or as it comes out of the ruck.

  • How do we get a maul?
  • In the field of play
  • Ball carrier, one of his team and an opposition
    player
  • Must be on their feet
  • All players are either caught or bound.
  • Joining
  • U19 and below must have head and shoulders above
    hips
  • Behind or alongside the foot of the hindmost team
    mate

  • What cant you do at a maul?
  • drag an opponent out of the maul
  • Take any action to make the opposing team think
    the ball is out
  • When does a maul end successfully?
  • Ball or player carrying it leaves the maul
  • Ball is on the ground
  • Ball is on or over the goal line.

  • Maul ends unsuccessfully
  • Maul collapses or is pulled down and the ball
    does not emerge
  • Ball becomes unplayable
  • Ball carrier goes to ground ball not available
    immediately
  • Scrum following a maul
  • Not in possession when maul began
  • Team moving forward before the maul was stopped
  • Neither team moving forward then attackers
  • Maul moves into in goal attackers get the ball
  • Catching team in a maul direct from an opponents
    kick in general play
  • When is a maul considered stationary
  • More than 5 secs
  • Can only start moving again once

  • To make a mark
  • Take a catch on or behind the 22m line
  • Make a clean catch direct from an opponents kick
  • Shout mark at the time of catching
  • May take a mark if off the posts
  • Can make a mark in goal
  • Who takes the kick?
  • The player that takes the mark
  • If player unable to within one minute then scrum
