  • Foundations of Professional Relationships
  • Managing Relationships
  • High Performance Teams
  • Crafting a Life

6
Caproni Ch. 1
  • Up to half who take a shot at management fail
  • IQ doesnt cut it - Proactivity, Emotional IQ,
    conscientiousness, technical skill
  • Be a critical and self-aware thinker
  • Create a broad and diverse network of high
    quality relationships
  • Identify and promote your brand - crafting a life
    isnt easy.

7
Proactivity
  • I am constantly on the lookout for new ways to
    improve my life.
  • Wherever I have been, I have been a powerful
    force for constructive change.
  • Nothing is more exciting than seeing my ideas
    turn into reality.
  • If I see something I dont like, I fix it.
  • No matter what the odds, if I believe in
something I will make it happen.
  • I love being a champion for my ideas, even
    against others opposition.
  • I excel at identifying opportunities.
  • I am always looking for better ways to do things.
  • If I believe in an idea, no obstacle will prevent
    me from making it happen.
  • I can spot a good opportunity long before others
    can.
  • Thomas Bateman and Michael Grant

Emotional Intelligence
  • To be sure, intellect is a driver of outstanding
    performance. Cognitive skills such as
big-picture thinking and long-term vision are
particularly important. But when I calculated
the ratio of technical skills, IQ, and emotional
    intelligence as ingredients of excellent
performance, emotional intelligence proved to be
twice as important as the others for jobs at all
    levels Emotional intelligence played an
increasingly important role at the highest levels
of the company When I compared star performers
with average ones in senior leadership positions,
nearly 90 of the difference was attributable to
    emotional intelligence factors rather than
    cognitive abilities.
  • What Makes a Leader? Daniel Goleman

9
Emotional IQ(Daniel Goleman)
  • Self Awareness (understanding yourself)
  • Self Regulation (controlling your self
    emotions, judgment, words)
  • Motivation (moving yourself)
  • Empathy (understanding others)
  • Social Skill (moving others, being able to build
    relationships, find common ground, influence
others, build teams, create networks, and lead
    change)

10
Caproni Ch 2Self-Awareness
  • To be someoneis one of the deep urges of the
human heartIt is a need that becomes more
intensely felt and also more difficult to
satisfy as the course of history carries us all
further away from the old realities that
structured our identities and life experiences
    for us.
  • Political Scientist Walter Truett Anderson
  • Author of Reality Isnt What It Used To Be

11
Managing Oneself
  • Place yourself where you can make the greatest
    contribution.
  • What are your strengths? Concentrate on your
improving your strengths. Discover where your
    intellectual arrogance is causing disabling
ignorance and overcome it. Remedy your bad
    habits.
  • How do you perform? How you perform is part of
your unique personality. How do you perform
under normal conditions, under stress, and during
    setbacks?
  • What are your values? What kind of person do you
want to see in the mirror in the morning? What
do you want to see on your tombstone when you
    die?
  • Where do you belong? What organizations, people,
and assignments will you say yes and no to?
  • What should you contribute? What can you do that
will make a difference? What will your legacy be?
What would be meaningful to you?
  • Peter Drucker, Managing Oneself, Harvard Business
    Review
