History of Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative
(GLSI)

• Spearheaded by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust
  (www.glft.org) and Wege Foundation.
• Funded with court settlement for fish losses at
  the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant hydroelectric
  facility jointly owned by Consumers Energy and
  Detroit Edisen in 1996. Payments were put into a
  20-year trust to fund research education about
  the Great Lakes.
• Additional grant funds from several community
  foundations and the Wege Foundation.
• Seeking long-term impact on culture of
  stewardship amongst Michigans youth.

  stewards of their HOMES ( Huron, Ontario,
  Michigan, Erie, Superior)
• Benefit K-12 teachers and learners
