• NetWare 3.x Administration Tools

Introduction

• Day-to-day administration of NetWare 3.x services
  often involves the use of several tools
• You will use these tools from your workstation to
  administer server services
• This presentation is a basic introduction to the
  more commonly used NetWare 3.x tools

NetWare Tools

• Most used tools include
• NDIR
• NCOPY
• LISTDIR
• SYSCON
• FILER
• There are others, but that will be the subject of
  a homework

Command Line tools

• The first three tools NDIR, NCOPY, LISTDIR -
  are purely command line tools
• That is, like their DOS counterparts, you have to
  type in the commands by hand
• Any features you want beside the default command,
  you must enter at the time you type the command
  these extras are called command line switches

NDIR

• Displays NetWare directories and their contents
  with NetWare attributes
• Attributes such as rights, owner etc.
• DOS DIR command cant do this
• NDIR has several command line switches for
  choosing which file information you need to view

NCOPY

• NCOPY
• Performs file copies on the server
• DOS COPY and XCOPY move the file from the server
  to the workstation and back to copy
• Copies NetWare file attributes DOS COPY doesnt
• Has several switches that control copying

LISTDIR

• Displays the directories in a selected path
• NDIR performs similar functions but looks mostly
  at files
• Has several command line switches

SYSCON

• SYSCON.EXE
• The main user management tool
• With SYSCON you can add, delete, and customize
  users and groups
• SYSCON is a very powerful tool that can best be
  appreciated using it

TREE

• A command line utility that will let you look at
  the directory tree structure of any directory you
  are in
• Can be piped directly to printer for output

Summary

• NetWare 3.x offered a vast array of tools to help
  network administrators perform server management
  tasks on a NetWare 3.x server
• These tool include NDIR, DIRLIST, SYSCON, TREE,
  and NCOPY
• This list is not a complete list and therefore
  another presentation will cover other tools
