First Nations Energy Alliance
  • VISION STATEMENT
  • Promote and foster the self reliance, self
    sufficiency and sustainability of First Nations
    and territories through the development of
    energy.
  • MISSION STATEMENT
  • The Mission of the First Nations Energy
    Alliance is to work cooperatively toward our
    common interests, with respect to energy as a
    component in achieving overall economic
    sustainability, while maintaining our
    independence and pursuing our own energy
    projects.

    Chippewas of Nawash meeting

  • Meetings commenced in Spring 2006 to discuss
    working together
  • Chippewas of Nawash, Walpole Island and
    Wikwemikong
  • First Nations Energy Forum held at Mnjikaning
    (Rama) in February 2007
  • Awareness of Energy sector opportunities growing
    as Ontario develops Integrated Power System
    I.P.S.P. 20-year plan

The Need for a First Nations Energy Alliance
  • First Nations must achieve meaningful benefits
    from Ontarios Integrated Power System Plan
  • There is a need for a common voice to government
    and industry in the energy sector
  • Opportunities in the Energy sector (Transmission
    Generation) are substantial
  • The Province of Ontario must adequately consult
    First Nations

  • Non-commercial (policy development access to
    the transmission grid, procurement, carbon
    credits, access to Crown Lands, etc.)
  • Investigate and determine potential commercial
    opportunities for joint participation
  • Transmission Manitoba to Barrie
  • Transmission Enabler Lines
  • Generation Projects (i.e. wind, solar, biomass,
    etc.)
  • Networking and Capacity Building
  • Advocate First Nations policy advancement for
    benefits in the Energy sector

  • Meet with government to promote F.N.E.A. goals
    and objectives
  • Hold a special assembly dedicated to
    participation in the Ontario 20-year I.P.S.P.
  • Develop a submission to the Ontario Power
    Authority (O.P.A.) and Ministry of Energy on the
    20-year I.P.S.P.
  • Participate in the Ontario Energy Board (OEB)
    hearings planned for 2007-2008

Transmission Action
  • Consider all options in approach towards
    transmission opportunities
  • Develop a proposal to government that will result
    in a First Nations Transmission Projects such as
    Manitoba to Sudbury
  • - North / South (Toronto to Sudbury)
  • - Enabler Lines through out the Province
  • Continue efforts until we achieve desired benefits

Generation Action
  • Develop generation opportunities to the extent
    desired at the community level
  • Consider joint participation in a large scale
    renewable energy project.
  • F.N.E.A. to continue networking and capacity
    building, etc.
  • Develop renewable energy opportunities including
    wind, solar, biomass, water power, etc.
