Who am I

• Run Data Collection side of MI.
• We administer PLASC, now School Census, routine
  3 x year
• Collect, verify, your information, carry out
  statistical analysis link with DfES
• Target setting / RAISE On-line training
• Administer the EY funding

Basic Kent Facts

• 600 Schools 700 PVI Nurserys 250k Children
• Kents gross budget for education is approx. 1.2
  Billion pa
• Schools information is key to acquiring much of
  this funding and distributing it
• 95 of schools are SIMS users
• Knowledge use of the systems vary across the
  sector.

CTF (Common Transfer File)

• Used to transfer pupil information in a secure
  manner through www.teachernet.gov.uk/s2s
• Requirement of the DfES to be done within 15 days
  of pupil ceasing to be registered
• It actually Works
• 50 of schools regularly use it for uploading
• 70 regularly use it for downloading
• But 16 dont use it at all
• Causes problems and duplication when not used
• Non compliance or poor use makes tracking missing
  Forces children very difficult

Schools Workforce

• A new DfES requirement for schools from 2010
• Require data on Teachers Support staff to
  include
• Full time Part Time
• Teaching Assistants, Special needs support staff
• Matrons/nurses medical staff
• Librarians
• IT Technicians, Admin officers, secretaries
• Bursars clerical staff
• This information will be at an individual level

• The onus from DfES will be on schools to provide
  the information, but LAs to collect it
• Mixed economy out there
• Obvious concerns
• Possible changes to the way you operate
• Initial extra work this might cause you
• Unclear if there is extra Government funding to
  assist

• May 08 small pilot of secondary schools some
  elements (not Kent)
• Sept 08 larger pilot of secondary schools some
  elements (still not Kent)
• Jan 09 c.20 LAs, all elements
• May 09 c.20 LAs, all elements again
• all LAs 10 schools some elements
• Sept 09 dry run of all LAs, all schools, all
  elements
• Jan 10 national roll-out

• Electronic link from SIMS to EMS (EMS?)
• Reduced admin. Improved data quality
• Can enable automatic updates
• It allows for quicker and more accurate support
• It will reduce your administration and eventually
  ours !
