Katyusha Fire In The North
2
Missile Attack
  • Yesterday, June 17th, at approximately 1720,
three 107 mm missiles were launched from the
vicinity of the villages of Taiba and Al-Adaisa
    in Southern Lebanon.
  • Two of the missiles fell in the Israeli town of
Kiryat Shmona, one hitting a car in the
industrial area and the other causing damage
while landing in the southern part of the town.
The third missile landed within Lebanese
    territory.
  • Aside from property damage, no injuries were
    caused from these attacks.
  • UNIFIL and the LAF revealed the missile
    launchers.
  • It is presumed that the missiles were launched by
a Palestinian organization operating in Southern
    Lebanon.

Comments
  • The need for international attention to the
disarming of the militias and the applying of
previous decisions (1701, 1559) is crucial to
maintaining quiet in the Israel Lebanese arena.
  • The missiles were launched from an area which is
under UNIFILs responsibility (AOR). Thus, UNIFIL
and the international community have a clear
interest and responsibility to act against these
extremist groups and to do all in its power to
    prevent future attacks.
  • The IDF is interested in maintaining the overall
quiet that has transpired since the cease-fire
that was agreed upon in August 2006 and will not
tolerate any more firing attacks towards Israeli
    territory.
  • It is in the interest of the international
community that the Lebanese government assert its
    sovereignty over all Lebanese territories.
