Pump Fundamentals and Selection

  • Flow capacity Flow Capacity is the volume of
    liquid pumped out in one unit of time.
  • Head Head is the expression of the total energy
    content of the liquid
  • referred to a datum.
  • Characteristic Curves The performance of
    a centrifugal pump can be shown graphically on
    a characteristic curve
  • Viscosity Viscosity is the quantity that
    describes a fluid's resistance to flow
  • Temperature It is the temperature of the liquid
    to be pumped by the pump.
  • Ph value The Nature of the liquid is determined
    by its Ph value.(acidic nature of water,ph
    value7)
  • Solid Handling Size The Size of the particles in
    the liquid which is to be pumped.
  • Shut Off Head Shut-off head is the maximum head
    generated by a centrifugal pump with zero flow
    and relatively less power.

  • Net positive suction head is the total energy
    (head ) at the inlet nozzle of pump (in relation
    to zero absolute pressure ) head of liquid ,at
    pumping temperature corresponding to vapor
    pressure of the liquid.
  • NPSH(A)The net positive suction head available
    is a function of the pump suction system.
  • NPSH(R)The net positive suction head required
    is a function of the pump design at the operating
    point on the pump performance curve.

COMPARISON FM/UL NON FM/UL
6 Engine is with dual starter, so having 2 batteries of 12V, if not started with first automatically switch over to other. Engine with single starter arrangement.
7 Space heater is inbuilt requirement of engine ,easy and automatic in cold starting. Not mandatory requirement of heater.
8 Engine cooling loop is as per NFPA-20 with pressure reducing valve, approved pressure solenoid valve, causing clean environment and not allowed flow through cooling loop unless engine starts. Cooling piping with orifice plate ,no pressure solenoid valve.
9 Controller a) 2 Battery chargers- allows two ways of charging the battery ,one from engine and other from controller. b)Inbuilt pressure switch-automatic operation of pump when pressure drops. c)Weekly programmer which allows automatic running of pump for half an hour once in a week ,thus always make pump prepared for working. d) Pressure recorder keep the record of pump operation. No such controller we provide with either motor driven or engine driven set.
