• Æetes allowed Phrixus to marry one of his
  daughters

Pelias and the Oracles Prophecy

• Phrixus Uncle King in Greece

  be killed by kinsmen

• He prophesized that only two of the heroes could
  defend him from the Harpies
• Boreas sons were the warriors and they defended
  Phineus
• Harpies were saved by Iris

• Phineus warned Argonauts of perils of traveling
• They tested the Sympledges with a dove
• Dove only lost tail feathers
• They proceeded and in so destroyed back end of
  the Argo

• Hera asked Aphrodite for help in ensuring Golden
  Fleece a success
• Cupid was to make Medea fall in love with Jason
• Medea knew dark magic and could save Argonauts

Foreigners Greet King Æetes

• King Æetes fed the heroes
• He didnt like foreigners but because he fed them
  he didnt kill them
• When Jason asked for fleece King Æetes demanded
  they complete a grueling task

The Task

• Yoke two bulls whose feet were of bronze and
  whose breath was flaming fire, and with them to
  plow a field. The teeth of a dragon must be cast
  into the furrows which would spring up at once
  into a crop of armed me. These must be cut down
  as they advanced to the attack.
